~Is anyone else besides me getting the holiday meal ready??~

Hey! Thanks for reminding me - I have to go to Honeybaked today! ;)

I made the sweet potatos last night - two kinds, one with pecans & brown sugar on top the other with marshmellows since my kids are allergic to nuts.
I am going my aunts & that is my contribution, so basically I'm done. If I feel better I will probably make a dessert. We are also taking some venison sticks to serve as munchies as we wait for the big feast.

I'm going to start preparing everything tomorrow so I can watch the parade and football
What time does the parade start? What station is it usually on? I've never been able to watch because the "guys" in the family take over the TV. But since it's just DH and I this year, I get to watch it!!! :cool1:

Yup, birds are defrosting, cornbread is drying out, jello salads, and the cranberry glaze for one bird are being made tonight. Tommorrow is a BIG cooking day!

Does anyone else make mashed potatoes ahead of time?

Yeesh, I finally convinced my mom to let me make them into a casserole with a little onions and cream cheese the night before, and all you have to do is pop them in and out of the oven....

I just love the chaos that goes on at my mom's right before dinner....she's making the potatoes with a mixer in one hand, stirring the gravy with the other, freaking out over the invisible lumps in both. She's yelling at Dad over both the mixer and the electric knife because he's paying attention to the tv instead of the turkey he's carving. She's yelling at ds for sneaking a piece of turkey skin and the rest of us for forgetting the rolls in the oven, the cranberries in the frige or the green beans in the microwave, all impossible to get to because someone called the kids in to eat before everything was ready. It's crazy and by the time we sit down, everyone's cranky, so dh tries to be funny by saying something stupid and we all glare at him because he did the old "be a jerk, get out of work" thing by acting like he doesn't know a giblet from a goblet....

yep, can't wait, LOL!

You'd think I was cooking for an army instead of just me and my DH. Tomorrow I'll be making the desserts and preparing the squash. Then tomorrow night I'll make the stuffing.

On Thursday I'll stuff the turkey and cook it. I try and have it done a couple of hours before we eat so that it cools off a bit. Makes it easier to slice. I also get the potatoes ready to cook. The squash will be baked in a casserole with butter and brown sugar.

I'm like the poster's mother who finishes a lot of stuff up at the end. :rotfl: Mash the spuds, make the gravy and cook some rolls just before throwing the whole thing on the table.

As the cook, the real Thanksgiving is Friday when I can just make up a plate of goodies, sit down and really enjoy it.
