Is anyone cruising with me on the August 27th 2011 Meditteranean Cruise? Hellooooo?

Hello, all!

Having been unceremoniously dumped from the Sept. 3 cruise, we booked this cruise yesterday.

First off, thank you, NHdisneylover, for posting about the Sept. 3 charter. DCL didn't even contact us! I just happened to be searching the Cruise Meets forum and found your thread. Good thing, since DCL said they would've just cancelled our reservation by the end of the week. :scared1:

It will be DH and me sailing. We have DS (11) and DD (8), but they're staying home with my mom this trip. The kids aren't too happy to be left behind, but they got their revenge by passing on a stomach bug they had. On the bright side--since I've been laid up for the past two days--I've made it through the first 20 pages of this thread. :)

So, I'm Ivy. DH is Darren. This will be our fifth cruise (all DCL). Our first was our honeymoon during the Disney Magic's inaugural year.

Just wanted to say "hi." Now, I have to get back to reading this thread.

Happy to have you on-board! I'm Dave and DW is Julie. We were also dumped from the Sept 3rd cruise. They left a message on our answering machine, "This is DCL. Please call us, your cruise has been cancelled."

Did they do anything for you? An upgrade, shipboard credit or any other perk? They gave us a shipboard credit but we had to change everything at work and make changes to other things. We have tickets to a CHICAGO concert that we have to get rid of. Bummer!:sad2:

I did the same thing you did, tried to read this entire thread in a couple days. There is a lot here. :)

Dave

Wow, so you booked your cruise on points? Congrats!!

We rented out our DVC points for the cruise. But now I don't have any points left to use until 2013!:(

Hope to meet you on the ship, for a drink maybe!:wizard:

Sounds great, love to meet a fellow DVCer for a drink. :thumbsup2 Looks like we will have an opportunity at Dominos the night before.

We used points left over from 2010, all of 2011 & 2012. So we are "pointless" until 2013, also. BUT we are cruising the Med.:woohoo:

I wish it was next week!:yay:

Hello, fellow dumpee. Sorry about the Chicago concert. That really stinks. We received the shipboard credit, but that's it. I thought it was pretty crappy compensation and considered going with another cruise line ... for about 5 minutes. We love DCL, though. Still, they could've offered us a little more for the inconvenience, especially with such short notice.

Welcome Aboard!!!

Thanks! Are you still looking for people to join tour groups--that was you, right? If so, we might be interested. Can you PM me the info?

I should warn you guys: I may be a cruise jinx. Our last cruise was cancelled, too. We had booked the Walt Suite nearly two years in advance (as a special treat for my parents who were sailing with us), but DCL cancelled the cruise because they had changed the dry dock schedule. Luckily, they had set up a new cruise the week prior (the original dry dock date), so we were still able to get the Walt. The funny thing is the DCL rep who helped me switch to this cruise happened to be the one who helped me last time. (I remembered her unique name.)

Hello! I sent you a PM!

The very short notice is bit overwhelming. We are quite settled here. My son is in school, and we would have to sell our British car within weeks. Not to mention our appliances that we just bought less than 2 yrs ago (refrigerator etc) I am up for the adventure tho! My husband is more upset about it than I am. Honestly, he still has his job, and in this economy, and with all of the DoD budget cuts, that is something to be thankful for!

I know that rushed feeling. We had about 2 months notice when we moved here. A full house (full of frunisture too--no container shipped) and two cars to figure out what to do with. Two school aged kids to figure out. And we didn't speak any German. It was crazy, but at teh end of the day so worth it:goodvibes
DO you call your son Chris, or JR? Either way, at his age you could enroll him in German Kindergarten (which means preschool--not what we call kindergarten) and end up with a child fluent in a second language with not a lot of stress or effort on his or your part:thumbsup2 That could be really valuable someday.

Hadley, I can print the name tags. I would need the dimensions of the plastic pouch. Also we would be interested in buying two lanyards as well.
Excellent. Thanks:goodvibes

Yes that is $99 dollars per person for the Disney Transfers. Which would be
Airport to Hotel
Hotel to Port
Port to hotel
Hotel to Airport

Except Disney said they wouldn't do it unless you booked the hotel thru them. They told me to get a taxi which I heard from the aiport to the hotel is $35 euros total. For me I was looking more at piece of mind of boarding the bus and not worrying about my luggage either leg of the trip. Oh well taxi it is! No worries.

As for lanyards we don't wear them, I think we came home with 8 from our panama canal cruise Disney gives out for repeat sailings and DVC gives out for Members I am more than happy to donate mine, because we don't want them. They hung on our light it our room it was funny to see them all stacked.

What we did on the Panama Canal Cruise were the following:

1. Wine Meet and Greet where everyone brought a bottle of wine. If you had two people you brought one bottle if you had 4 people you brought two bottles and then we got space in the Promenade lounge and each group was charged the 18.00 corking fee to their room if they wanted to participate. It was a great way to meet people at the beginning of the cruise.

2. The other event was the Champagne girls where each attendy paid $15.00 and Disney provided the champagne tastings. The girls all wore pink boa's and tiarasprincess:

3. Then they had mixology classes for $15 per person and you learned how to make the fruity drinks on board the ship. :hippie:

4. Room Tour to see all the categories on the ship. It was amazing! Someone in our group was staying in the Roy O Disney Suite which while we were on the patio about 150 dolphins swam by! Talk about our Magical MOMEnt!:wizard:

Also there was a meet and greet right before the muster drill at 3pm at a lounge on dEck 3 which was great to meet everyone and get the party started.:banana::banana:

These five things were all exclusive to Disboard members only. :grouphug:
About the lanyards: yes we have loads of them from DCCL as well (Which we never use). It is nice to offer them up, but that is not relaly the point. The point is to have a bunch that stand out as just for the DIS so we can all quickly recognize each other, are more comfortable than DCL's and are labeled with info about this particular trip to make a nice souvineer. I am surprised the DISsers did not do lanyards on the Panama Canal cruise. It sounds like you did A LOT of other fun things though:thumbsup2 Being a short Med cruise with only one sea day, I cannot imagine fitting all of that in--but planning something would be nice:goodvibes David has done the mixology class before and loved it. I have never been on a cruise with DISsers when there is a room tour, but I always read about them online and they sound like so much fun. We have also done a pajama breakfaston the sea day on a fwe cruises. Everyone agrees to show up at Lumiere's for breakfast that day in PJs and we get seated as a large group (or a few large ones next to each other). That is a good combination of fun and silly. Again though, with only one sea day you hate to plan many things because you hate to miss DCL's activities. I ended up skipping out on the last PJ breakfast because there was something else I wanted to do more:dance3:

WELCOME Ivy and Darren :goodvibes I'm sorry I had to be the bearer of bad news--but I am glad you the message in time to move the reservation.

OH, that is a bummer about the Chicago concert:headache:

Dressing up for pirate night daughter and myself!only pirate once!so why not a bit of fun and great for hol photos!Formal night dress/shirt/tie pants.
Happy to say been granted our dining to 2nd seating now!

Hi, please count us in on the lanyards. Can I just check if they will be safety ones (anti-choke) for the kids?

Oh yes--it is usually about 10 cents more per lanyard for the breakaway cord--which I feel is WELL worth it. I just can't see putting anyone in danger over a dime. I was a preschool teacher for years and tend to be a bit of a safety nut--I am happy to see I won't be gettign a complaint for upgrading to the safer lanayrd:thumbsup2 And THANK YOU for wanting to help out!

Does anyone know the Pier number in Barcelona, and the sail time?
I am trying to book Airport transfers. :)

Thanks for the addition! Still to new to send you a PM. Send me your email address and I will send an awesome picture of us in Carmel, CA. :cool2:
Can't wait to see it! email it to ikeroni@hotmail.com :thumbsup2

please show us a pic of your outfits! My latest mission is figuring out the "euro". How much to get, where to get them, and where to exchange them back if I have some left over.

Sure thing! Once I actually finish them though. Right now, I am working on a dress form for myself so I can fit the dresses better.

Well I need to pay for the private tours in euro, which will be quite a few! Also, my bank has a minimum to exchange back(200). There is a $10 fee thru my bank to purchase the euros regardless of the amount. I also read AAA does euros. The exchange rates... are they the same anywhere? I did hear the ATM's give the best rates. I'm just concerned about the limits.

As for the euro - our private tour does take american dollars if you prefer that, if all else fails, you can convert on the ship, right? But I am watching the euro/dollar like a hawk hoping it will go back up so I can convert some before we leave.

Lanyard Team
I will be interested in getting 6 of the lanyards - I don't mind the extra 10 cents for the safety. I can also pitch in through paypal if needed... just let me know.

DH just got news that we may be moving to Stuttgart Germany next month, so I may end up with different travel arrangements to the port. All of our flights and hotels are already booked in London!

Wow! How exciting! Crazy how things work out - but they will work out. :)

Thanks for adding us to the site! Sorry for the huge photo. I promise we don't actually have giant heads. :rotfl:

I can shrink it down, sorry, I don't really check the site after I edit it :headache:

Oh, please don't apologize! It's not your fault. I should've shrunk it before I sent it. No biggie.

Well I've decided to find a church and go to Mass at Villefranche , then walk around the town there at the port. Go back for some lunch and try to go to the little beach there. If it's too crowded then we'll head on back to the adult pool.

That is a good idea, did you find a church?

Last summer when we did the cruise from Dover to Barcelona we were able to do half days in the port then we would come and spend the rest of the afternoon by the pool, and it ended up being a relaxing cruise. I think the 7 day Med cruise, once we get to Italy will be hard to have relaxing days, so take advantage of it while you can.
