Is anyone cruising with me on the August 27th 2011 Meditteranean Cruise? Hellooooo?

That is so sweet of you to offer to take us around! We are not definite on a date yet but hopefully sometime soon. My father in law will be over this way for business in a few months, so we will probably finalize the plans then. He is not military, He is a retired Govt. worker and a Forensic Scientist. He is traveling most of the year. His wife is Dutch. I know that while he was a contractor he was stationed in Germany, but I think he likes it too much and decided to stay. His children are citizens and go to a German school. :)

I am glad he likes Germany so much (we do too). My kids are not citizens (yet) but they do go to a German school. They are pertty much fluent now. Dave and I are still working on that:rolleyes: I can understand most things and always manage to get my point across, but my grammar is atrocious and I often need people to slow down when they speak. I really struggle to read and write as well. Dave is much better at reading and writing but struggles speaking (he understands pretty well most of the time). He travels a lot for business (40 weeks last year) so he doesn't get to practice speakign German that often, but does get practice reading and writing with work emails. We only had six weeks warning before we moved here so we did not have ANY German before we came and we have been playing catch up ever since (it has been 2 years as of Monday).

Do you find you like the UK as much as your father in law likes Germany? Would you consider staying premanently?

I like it here alot and am very grateful for this amazing experience, but I would never want to live abroad forever. We are too close to our family and I just really like America. It has been kinda hard for me being here. So many family and friends have gotten married, my sister is pregnant with her first baby, our best friends just had THEIR first baby, so we feell like we are missing alot. I am kinda looking forward to moving home (hubby is too) We want to have another baby, so we are looking forward to moving home in April 2012. Luckily, my husband has a choice whether or not he wants to renew his contracts, so we only have to be here on a year to year basis until we want to go home. We just renewed, so we will spend this year doing some more travelling and saving for a house :) Then it is back home to Maryland for good.

WOW! A bunch of new people joining us! :cool1:
So happy those of you from the Sep 3rd cruise are able to join us.
I am so disappointed in Disney over that.

I have my own good news though. DF wont be re-training until November! :worship:
Our trip is a go! We are going to get married in August just before we leave for Europe. That way if he gets orders overseas I'll be on them. I was also worried I would be told I cant take the time off but if it's for my wedding/honeymoon they wont say anything! So now I have 6 months to plan a wedding in a state I don't live in. :rotfl:

Glad things are working out, a cruise will be a great honeymoon.

Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all the welcomes. I cannot wait to get to know people.

Hi Marika! :goodvibes

I have a 14 year old daughter (she'll be 15 by the cruise) who was in Girl Scouts for years, LOVES reading, all things theatre, loves Germany (this is where our family is from) and would be very interested in a kids thread.:thumbsup2 I also have a 16 year old daughter who would love to write to other teens as well. If you start a thread, my girls would be on it with you. I think it wold be wonderful for them to get to know some kids before you get on the cruise.

Yay, other teens:woohoo:. I will definitely start a teens/kids thread right away. Your younger daughter sounds like we have a lot in common and I definitely want to get to know both of them. All other teens and kids welcome too. Please, come. My little brother is 12 and hopefully he will post too. I think that he is about the age of some of your boys Austraveler. It is always so much fun getting to know people before the trip. On the last Disney cruise I was on a whole group of kids got to know one another and we all hung out together every evening of the trip. I still email and Facebook them. It really adds some extra magic to the trip.

The Dis will not let me post links until I have ten posts:mad: and since I just got my own account I do not yet have that many (previously I had posted under my Mom's account). My Mom will post the link to the new teens/kids thread soon, however, it can also be easily found underneath cruise meets.

So I was starting to research some non-disney excursions to compare the tours disney is offering and what external companies are offering and I noticed that some companies now "Guarantee" Transportation to your next port if you miss the boat. I found that to be comforting since that is usually what I worry about when going externally. The price was also pretty close to disney but the nice part was it was private transportation instead of group transportation, but I didn't save the website so I gotta go search again.

I couldn't agree with you more and that guarantee is good for peice of mind, but they offer it because more often than not - you won't need to utilize it cause there is plenty of time to get you back to port, but it is a good insurance to have for those unexpected times.

We have moved to this cruise from the September 3 debacle. We are a family of 5 from Australia - myself, my Husband and three boys (7,10 and 11). This will be our first cruise and is part of a round the world trip, starting with the cruise.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that you have had such a horrible initial experiance with your first cruise! It shouldn't be like this, but I am glad you didn't cancel all together and are joining this cruise :thumbsup2

Hi guys,

We will hopefully be joining you on this cruise. Apologies for the first post possibly bearing bad news, but I've just posted this on the main forum...

Any thoughts? I only hope that my assumptions are wrong.

Is it possible the cruise is sold out? I thought you couldn't find a sold out cruise on the DCL site.:confused3
Last time I checked the DCL site was a few weeks ago and they were only showing one category available for booking.

I am hoping it is just closed while they move all Sept 3 people around.

I am not flexible on my dates, so not sure if I would just book the similar
RCCL Liberty 7 day med cruise leaving Aug 27 or what.

Oh no...that doesn't sound good. But my personal opinion is that they could impossible 'charter' the last cruise from 3rd september and move a lot off people to this cruise and 'charter' this cruise alsoo. You can't do that to those people again....It involves so much planning and stress ( and money if you booked everything separately, like airplane and transfer, hotel)
Let's hope that the reason is that this cruise is full or something:confused3
On the dutch cruisesite where we booked it is still possible to book this cruise, only for the better cabins, the cheaper ones are solld out.
But still a little bit worried....

When I spoke to DCL last week, I was told that the cruise was fully booked and there were only a few cabins left. Plus, when I inquired about switching from late dining to early, I was wait listed, so that has to be a good sign. I highly doubt that they would do the same to this cruise, especially since they have already rebooked some of the Sept. 3rd cruisers.

RoniBoboni, do you have a link to your website yet?

I do, but please pardon the mess, it's still under construction:

Another Sept. 3 refugee here. DH and I are joining this cruise after the bad news of having to shift dates.:confused3 Just the two of us. I will read the previous posts soon, to catch up with everyone. We have done a 10 day Magic in the Med cruise, May 2009, and a Eastern Caribbean Magic cruise last December.

We would like to do FE's. One DIS cruise we were on had us pick one cruise day to make a FE run of all cabins. More than one person can choose the same day, as long as all days are covered. That way you only have to pack one day's worth of goodies. However, I will be happy to follow whatever system is decided upon.:thumbsup2

I am assuming that this cruise will be quite full if all us Sept. 3 people are being moved. Anyone know what's happening with the shuffle?

Diane
