Is Anyone Afraid of GAINING WEIGHT while at WDW? LOL

I am worried about it  DH & I have each lost over 30lbs on south beach diet since AFTER we booked our package with DDP.

I don't want to undo our efforts but with all the walking & substituting fruits or yogurts for SOME of the desserts I'm hoping we'll find a good balance. We've already resolved we'll just do a few days of phase 1 when we get home to get back on track :thumbsup2

Hi All!

Thanks so much for your well thought out comments. I did read everyones thoughts, suggestions. Great discussion. Yes, currently I'm doing WW's . I'm eating a lot of lean protein, fruits, veggies, oatmeal etc AND WATER! LOL! I find when I eat alot of rich food such as sauces, or a lot of sugary food (dessert) and or frozen sugary drinks (pina colada's etc) I tend to gain weight. When I stick to whole foods not processed I do tend to lose. Yes, I know it's vacation time and while on vacation some here can eat freely, which is fine. But for me it takes so long to loose the weight then while on vacation I can easily put it back on. I just tend to "watch" what kind of food I'm putting in MY MOUTH! LOL! Yes, we certainly do lots of walking, which is a great exercise. I just know for me, personally, couldn't do the FREE DINING. I am glad we can talk and discuss these issues here. I have enjoyed reading everyone's reply's too.

Add me to your list Brunette! After losing 40 pounds in a year, I can't adhere to the "Don't worry, it's vacation". Gaining 5 pounds will take 1-2 months to lose  Not a good idea when you vacation 2-3 times a year. I lost the weight by doing permanent lifestyle changes, and listening to my body signals. On vacation, I splurge way more, ex. I eat ice cream everyday, but I still make so good choices (resisting the bread at restaurants), and more importantly, eat only till I'm not hungry anymore. But I have drinks, where at home it's limited to wine on the week-ends. I share meals with DH when possible, or sometimes we have a salad and a meat entree, doing half & half. Great way to increase the veggie intake, because it's frankly lacking at any restaurant (not just Disney), and we eat our 5 portions a day at home! But whatever we do, we always come home, step on the scale and get an horrible +5 pounds... which quickly drops after a few days to +1-2. Clearly water retention because of all that sodium. The 1-2 pounds I can manage to lose easily, so I think we've found a good recipe We came back from a very good all inclusive this spring where lots of froufrou drinks and great food was involved with that 1-2 pounds gain. And all vacations are more active than our regular lifestyle, which also helps.

I gain wait just looking at the menus 6 months ahead of time, when planning my ADRs.

At Disney, on the deluxe dining, I LOSE weight! That walking takes it right off. I usually lose about 2 - 3 pounds, but, I lost 15 lbs in 10 days one year when I brought Xenedrine along :upsidedow !!

8 pounds this past trip.

Heading back with free dining in a few weeks, I am thinking 10-15 pounds this trip.

Boy, I so hope not!!! :rolleyes1

I was very worried when we went on our first trip this past April. But with all the walking and activity we did, I didn't gain anything! I ate what I wanted in WDW, but I didn't pig out. We also didn't drink any alcohol and stuck to pretty much water.

The problem I have is that I get used to eating like this and then when we came home, it's really really hard to go back to eating healthy and normal. I find that all my cravings for desserts and salty foods come back and I have to go through a week of withdrawal to get back to normal.

I am a tad worried, but I do plan to indulge a little, and eat as healthy as I can the rest of the time. The "ton of walking" thing doesn't reassure me too much. I currently walk 5 miles a day as part of a weight loss plan and you'd be surprised how little that burns. Enough to drop a pound to two pounds a week on 1200 calories a day. However if I'm not careful the average dinner in Disney could surpass a days worth of calories. So.. while I don't plan to lose I am hoping to maintain so that I can lose these last 20 pounds.:)

I always LOOSE....abut 10 pounds in a week.
I eat, I walk 3 miles, I eat again, I walk another 3 miles.

#1. I don't do free dining, #2. I'm a very light eater, #3. With all that walking I'm expecting to lose weight. #4 September can be a very hot month, last think to do when it's hot is over eat. The one thing to do is drink as much water as you can.

Heavy food slows you down, makes you feel the heat more. Eat light and drink lots of fluids and you'll be surprised at how much better you'll feel.

My wife and I face this every trip! Having each lost over 100lbs 5+ years ago, fear of gaining anything back is high. (We also still LOVE to eat)!

With that said, I've learned two things on our trips over the past few years:

1. We walk so much, and have so many activites, it's really not an issue.
2. Even if I jump 8-10 pounds, it is very temporary. Usually coming off by simply going back to our normal diet within a week or two of coming home.

We always get the dining plan, again, LOVE to eat, LOL, so we always have at least one sit down meal per day, and trust me, we get FULL use of our credits. :lmao:

I say, don't worry about it. You are not going to gain permanent wait on a vacation unless you are PIGGING OUT 24x7. Eat, drink, be merry, for tomorrow you will no longer be in the happiest place on earth!

Not afraid, just accepting the inevitable!:rotfl2: Even with all of the walking and sweating, I'm sure that those mickey ear ice cream treats add up.

I always gain weight on vacation but feel thats what vacations are for, but this time I have my Engagement party a week after we get back, so am going to have to try and control myself or starve myself for a week when we get home:laughing:

I try to take it slow during the first few days because i could gain weight easily and that makes it hard to fit into my shorts but the last few days i will eat more than normal and thats when i break out my bigger shorts or stretchy shorts. Pace yourself but dont go crazy at first.

I am somone who lost ALOT of weight back in 2005 and I unfortunately worry ALL the time about weight gain, here at home I try to watch what I eat most of the time.

On vacation not so much especially WDW b/c we walk and swim ALOT. Ive done FD 5 times and never gained weight. This yr we are actually paying for the DDP b/c it just makes it so easy.

I go to the gyn almost every day Mon-Fri so if I do gain a few pounds which I doubt just b/c of all the exercise I will just step it up a notch when I get home..

My goal on any vacation is to not gain more than I can take back off in the first 2 weeks I'm back home. This usually means somewhere around 5 lbs. On vacation, I relax & eat what sounds good. I don't go crazy, just enjoy myself. Diets are for the real world, not Disney World!

I actually make it a point to lose an extra 5 pounds before we go so that I can not think twice about eating anything I want while we're there. DH and I also lost a lot of weight about 10 years ago, and I worry about gaining. By losing the extra 5 beforehand I don't stress at all while were at Disney. Typically I've gained that 5 back by the time we get home. :goodvibes

I honestly don't understand how anyone can LOSE weight at WDW!!! Even with all the walking I usually gain 5-7 pounds on every trip. I must just have a really crappy metabolism!
