Is anybody else afraid of the debate board?

no, actually, there are "normal" people (or what passes for it on the DB) on both sides of the issues, and rabid dogs on both sides as well.

I enjoy debating with people who have the ability to debate ideas without attacking one another. That concept seemed to be lost on many of the DB regulars, at least back when I used to visit. I can honestly say I haven't looked on the DB in over a year, I just have no interest in watching people snipe back and forth at one another.

It can be a scary place some days. But I can honestly say that I see FAR more meanness on this board than that one, when someone dares to disagree with the status quo. JMO.

I'm not scared at all of the Debate Board and will go frequently to read what's being "debated" over there. However I rarely post there because that's not why I DIS. I debate and have enough opinions in real life......I like to come here more for the Fluff as an X DISer once put it.

As ugly as the DB can get, I have seen it get far worse on the CB, the RB, and the DCLB.

The irony is that whenever a thread gets ugly here, people want it moved to the DB ...no wonder we get such a bad rap.

I love the Debate Board. There's alot of fire and brimstone over there, but if you wear your flame retardent suit, you're fine.

It's getting a little dicey lately because it's a big election year and there's a very controversial war going on, very fertile ground for hostile debates.

But please, let's not forget those very important debates such as - is Piglet a girl or boy? And are Peeps better stale or fresh? It's not always scary.

It scares the tar out of me! If I read a thread that gets to me it's too hard for me not to respond, so I just stopped going there.

I would never post on the DB, I wouldn't want to get attacked for an opinion. Sometimes I read the discussions, but that's about it. I prefer the CB much more!

The DB is one really scary place! I occassionally lurk but it can turn mean in a matter of seconds. I prefer the CB where most everyone is friendly.

I like it. When I first went there in Jan 04, I was a little taken back. I didnt post at first. I started seeing some patterns and some ideas that I could relate to. I started debating (havent posted a thread yet) and havent really gotten into a real shouting match yet.

There are several folks (or possibly one person with several names) that twist everything around and make it look like they are always the victim and out to avenge the evil doers. When that happens, I try not to let it get to me. Those poeple are probably just trolling for a fight.

Its tough sometimes, but for the most part, people are good there. Like grinningghost said...Election year and an upopular war can bring out the rabid dogs...

Im not scared to go there but I lurk more than respond. I have gotten flamed a few times(we homeschool)

I dont mean too hit a nerve here cause several have responded that they spend a lot of time there, but Im like my Dad says, if you wake up in the morning and dont have any problems, some people will go looking for trouble. Not all but some come across that way on the DB.

Im like Dan Murphy, give me the fluff. Its safe and yet still effective.

I don't go to the debate booard. I used to but I stopped. It's not that it bothers me....just not how I want to spend my time.

When I'm on the Disboards, I'm here for the fun stuff. I don't mind debating with people I know well enough to have some respect for their point of view, but debating isn't on my mind when I come here. So...I don't even bother going over to that board. I stick with the CB, DCL, theme parks etc...

I can say....from experience on another debate board (before I gave that up too), that I understand why you'd be "afraid." People can get pretty nasty.
