If you are staying at AKL??? I am just wondering if I should spend my time doing something different. It will be myself,dh,dd9,and dd7.

AK is our 2nd fav park it is just so amazing to even walk around in, if you have time go-- there is alot more to it than just the animals you will see from the resort!

I like Animal Kingdom, but I like the other parks better. It just depends on the taste's of everyone else.

AK kind of grows on you. Every time I go, I love it more. I would definately give the park a try.

Festival of the Lion King is one of the best Disney live shows ever. The Safari ride is great, too. so is "it's Tough to be a Bug" 3d movie. Other than those 3, we consider AK to be a 1/2 day event for our family. It is usually hot when we are there, and worse at AK.

If you have never been, you should allot a day to at least check it out.

usually I would say hit the park right after lunch(this is considering you have a multi day hopper). Check out the major attractions and then the parade right before you leave

AK is a park that requires opposite thinking. You will enjoy it more if you slow down and see all the animal exhibits in the side trails....very nice. I enjoy this park more and more each time I visit it.

Thanks everyone for the posts. I have decided that we will go since I do want to see the Festival of the Lion King. Do you think we should make it a full day thing. I f we do a half day should we go in the morning or afternoon??

thanks in advance

AK is my least favorite park...But I still like to spend some time there during my visit. It's usually open 9-5, until 8pm with EMH. A couple hours work for us. We like the Festival of the Lion King, It's Tough to be a Bug, Dinosaur and Kilimanjaro Safaris. Flame Tree BBQ is a great lunch spot if you like BBQ stuff. Typically, we would have breakfast, go to AK for like 10am, stay until mid-afternoon.

Our plan is to get there as early as possible and walk quickly to the Kilimanjaro Safari Ride. The animals tend to move around more in the morning, (or very late in the day). Then, we come back to see the 3D movie- "It's Tough to be a Bug". Then we catch the Lion King Sow. sometimes we get done befroe the park even gets crowded. The ride "Dinosaur" id good, too. But it is dark and sort of throws you around. Then, there is the Kali Rapids water ride, but we have never been because we don't like to get wet and then have to walk around the park.

Like one of the OP said you have to think opposite at this park. It is not all about rides. There are animals everywhere, but you have to look for them. Slow down and LOOK , LOOK, AND LOOK. The attention to detail is amazing. Most people race from one ride to another and never bother to look at anything. We find is a very relaxing park. Another good show is Flights of Wonder. It is a bird show, but very cute. It is not like the typical bird show, but still very cute. :dog2: ::MickeyMo :dog: :pug:

I might get flamed for this, especially by those who claim AK is more than animals, but if you come from a city or area with a nice, large, well-kept zoo, AK doesn't have as much to offer, IMO. Yes, you have some really good shows and rides and more hands-on attractions, but the main attraction for me was the safari ride. But, I have a really good local zoo and the allure isn't as much at AK as it is for the other parks.

Edit: I think that may change with Everest though.

Because its a slow down and look park, I think people who manage it in half a day do it a huge disservice. I like to take the safari ride several times in a trip, the only thing that's always the same is the lion lying on top of that rock! Likewise the trails in Africa and Asia - they change every time you go through.

But it does depend on what you enjoy. If you are dragging kids through the park who want to get on Dinosaur! then hop over to MGM to ride Tower of Terror, and think the animals and detail is "boring" it probably does fine as a half day park.

We are going the 3rd week in Dec and I am worried about the weather,Do the animals tend to stay out of sight if the weather is cooler? What would be the main attractions to hit? We don't have park hoppers so do I stay the whole day?? If i just do 1/2 a day any idea's as what to do the other half of the day?? If it is warm (we are from Mi so warm to us in Dec is 50 degrees LOL :sunny: ) we can hang out at the pool but if it is cooler should we head to DTD, check out other resorts?? This is the first time for my dh and DD's, I have been to MK once so I am not sure what all there is to do outside the parks.

Thanks again for all your input

We stayed at AKL and I think it enhanced our visit to AK. Talked to the CM's in the savannah area at AKL and they will also tell you different things to look for at AK. Take your time and look at the whole park - I love the gorilla and tiger areas! Watch the parade. Don't miss FOTLK and Tarzan Rocks! Look for Devine on the walkway between the Safari and Asia. Stop and play drums with the CMs. Take extra shoes so that you can ride the Kali River Rapids, and then don't have to squish while walking around the rest of the day. Take time to notice the details such as the pavement in the Safari ride that has been tracked and painted to look like mud, but it's not. Look for hidden Mickeys. this park is more relaxed and laid back and beautiful. :flower:

We jsut got back and AK was a favorite park of all my kids, but for different reasons. DD9 LOVED the Primeval Whirl (name?) rollercoasater and did it by herself probably 10 times because no one else would ride with her because it twirls fast. DD7 loved the parade here---her favorite--great character interaction unlike other parades and very original. She also loved the Safari. DS4 LOVED Donald's Breakfastasurus which was full of practical jokes. He aslso laughed and laughed at Kali's River Rapids. :umbrella: And DH and I loved the trails and especially Festival of the Lion King. We slept in that day and stayed until 5:00 and ended our day eating at Boma's in AKL--a great African meal--and a great way to end our day at AK.
Definately worth spending some time here. :bitelip: We gat rained on, but hey it's a rainforest :umbrella:

:pug: Is it just me. I think the parade at AK is one of the best. I think alot of people leave before the parads starts.
