Is an onsite hotel really worth the cost?

This has undoubtedly been asked a million times, but if you stay 1 night at an onsite hotel don't you have 2 days of FOTL priveledges? That may be an idea for your family as well...... :goodvibes

about the FOTL perk, how do I access a list of hotels that have these FOTL perk? Initially I 'm planning on staying in some moderate hotel at I-Drive, but after reading about the FOTL thing, I guess it would be great to save time and frustration goes away. But I need to know which onsite hotels/resorts do you mean.. TIA.

Is is just Hard Rock, Royal Pacific and Portoinfo Bay?
Minimum required nights to be eligible for FOTL perk is..?

I always go to loewshotels.com and then click on Orlando. There are three on-site hotels at Universal Orlando - Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and the Portofino Bay Hotel. I have stayed at all three of these resorts and they are fabulous.

The FOTL perk cannot be beat.

Welcome aboard. Yes, it's the 3 hotels you mentioned, they are onsite.
You only need to stay one night to get the FOTL. It works the day you check in, and the day you check out. Your room key is the FOTL. When you walk up to a ride, you flash it, and go thru a shorter line. The RPR is the lowest price of the 3 hotels, and currently the fan favorite on these boards. You could stay at a budget hotel on I-drive, then move to the RPR for one night, and you'd have FOTL for 2 days. Some people have done this, but you won't really "feel" like you stayed. It's best to book 2 nights and enjoy the resort. Save up and think of it as a splurge.

This is exactly what we are doing for our March trip to Orlando, we are splitting our stay between Disney and Universal. We are doing Disney first at a reasonable cost and then switching over to RPH for 5 nights at a nice so reasonable cost, but I expected this simply because we are going during the busier time. My husband is shocked that it is costing us almost as much to stay at Universal for 5 nights as it is to stay at a moderate with tickets and dining at Disney so I sure am hoping that those who are big fans of FOL are not mistaken. It might be hard to get my husband to agree to go back to Universal if it just isn't worth it.

I saw a suggestion, if you can be bothered, to book 2 separate nights onsite and then you get 4 days FOTL!

yes, a person could stay one night at the one site hotels, next night off site then back on the third day/night at on site and receive the 4 days of fotl perks.

but geez.........all that moving ........its gotta get to ya...

i go to the parks when they open and stay until they close down. i would hate to move from on site to off site just for the perk........

i mean, you stay on site, use the key for the fotl and at the end of the day relocate to an off site hotel.
then, go to the on site hotel on the morning you check out of the off site hotel and check in again on site...............repeat process again.

whew........makes me tired just thinking about it.

more power to you if you can pull it off.

Checked into RPR at 6:30AM in August 2004 but never even went to the room, just used FOTL all day and went back to WDW around 8PM for Fantasmic. Had 3 day passes with 1 (free) day left on them so we didnt shell out any cash for the passes at least. Even that was well worth it.
