Is an AARP membership worth it?

Which party/ideology? Curious. Also may join if others seem to like it, altho my ego can't get past that I'm old enough now.

I would encourage you to google it and do your own research. Be sure to read more than one side to get a better perspective. They are a very powerful lobby which does mean that toes get stepped on.

I don't know, but maybe the fact that it began as an off-shoot of the National Retired Teachers Association (teachers typically lose their retirement at age 65) has something to do with the political criticisms.

Just google "AARP Campaign Contributions" and see which party gets all their money. AARP has become a fund raiser for a certain party and it's really their #1 reason for existing. Sure they do lobby for elderly people but that's not their main focus or priority. When the party they support wants to cut funding for an elderly person's program the AARP will always come out in favor of the party and support the cut in funding.

As I said, look carefully and be aware of the sources for the information you will find. It is easy to get things from google, not so easy to tell where it's coming from sometimes. You can guess when you see "conservapedia" or "americanthinker" that the slant is going to go a different way from, say, "nytimes"
