Is Alfredo's really that bad??

We are also having dinner at Alfredo's as part of our Candlelight Processional package and I was kind of worried about the mixed reviews, too. But we are gonna give it a try. I agree with the above post in that you take a chance at any restaurant in wdw. I am not a steak lover so I might not rave about restaurants that mainly serve steaks. Plus, since I don't consider what we get at home to be great Italian food, I am going with a good attitude and open mind.

We like it and have never gotten bad service. It is worth the trip to us to experience their namesake dish Fettuccine Alfredo.

Sometimes I think that Americans expect all food to taste like what they are used to in their neighborhoods and unless you have eaten at the orginial Alfredos in Italy I am not sure you can compare it to other "Italian" food.

Just as with the Mexican food at San Angel.

American restaurants have "Americanized" much of the foreign food to the point that unless one travels extensively they would not recoginze the true form the of the food.

I am sure service is hit or miss as with all restaurants.

It's been our family favorite since Epcot opened. :earsboy:

Thanks for the post!! Been thinking this myself.
Man, I hope I hit a good day, I've been looking forward to Alfredo's ever since I read about it. Fett. Alfredo is my favorite meal and I pray it goes well.

My grandparents are from Italy (one from Sicily and one from Naples) so I grew up with authentic Italian and agree that some of what Alfredos offers is very authentic. I just thought it was not very good. However, I ate there last about 18 months ago. So it makes sense that it might have gotten better or maybe we had some unusually bad experiences. Let us know how you feel when you eat there.

I don't think they can change the crowded tables, etc. My husband called it a "lively" place. I thought it was too loud. And I am the one who usually sees the glass as half full! :confused3

The alfredo is something you can't miss. If there's any Food Network fans, Giada from Everyday Italian shared the recipe of the Original Alfredo which I think is either exact or close to what they have in Alfredo's. You should be able to find it on foodtv.com.

We've eaten at Alfredo's 3x & were pleased every time we ate there. I couldn't comment on how authentic the cuisine is (not until after our So. Italy trip next year) But I did enjoy it & my DH who is very picky about his red sauce loves it. I think the calamari & antipasti were remarkably good.
I am sure the food is Americanized at Alfredo's, just as it is everywhere else in Epcot. If you are an Authentic Italian food afficiando, you may be disappointed. That was my experience with Chefs - I am used to the real deal & didn't care for the blander version.

Alfredo's will always be extremely crowded because it's an oasis of familiarity: who doesn't like Italian food? Most people are willing to eat okay-to-good Italian food over something more exotic, especially if they have kids.

My DH and I love Alfredo's. We often eat there twice each trip. It is a not miss for us and has been for the last 10 years or so.

Though I've enjoyed the food quite a bit, I've always thought the service was less than stellar. And they really pack 'em in there! I find that if we order alcohol with our meal, the service is better. Go figure! LOL

Some dishes we've had and enjoyed (taken from allearsnet.com) --

Mozzarella alla Caprese - Vine ripe red and yellow tomatoes with fresh bufala mozzarella imported from the Naples region with virgin olive oil, and fresh basil $10.50 -- we thought the mozzarella was really mushy

Misto di Insalate dell 'Orto - a salad of wild greens with sweet grape tomatoes and our Italian raspberry vinaigrette dressing - $5.95
Alfredo's Famous Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce tossed in home made Caesar dressing and topped with smoked bacon and our own paper thin herbed crouton $6.95
Had these minus the bacon and it was good. Next time I'd ask for less dressing as the salad was swimming.

I usually get and enjoy:
Fettuccine Alfredo per Tutti - a platter of homemade egg noodles tossed in a special butter and parmigiano cheese.
served as an appetizer: $10.95 per person
Servings are very large IMO, so a side is the perfect amount.

My husband has ordered the seafood specials in the past and really enjoyed them each time.

Desserts are never a disappointment.

I say go and try for yourself. There are plenty of places that the DIS consensis seems to be negative but we've really enjoyed.

I just skimmed through the previous posts, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but if your family is into gourmet Italian food, have you tried Palio at the Swan? The food was absolutely fantasic there! Plus, they have a Limoncello martini that absolutely rocks! Try the shrimp appetizer over white beans! Yum!

Here's a strange question about Alfredo's: Has anyone noticed the strong cheese smell that eminates from the restaurant? Does it smell like that inside too? Are DH and I the only ones who notice it? Does it affect the experience at all? We are going to WDW next December with the dining plan and want to try Alfredo's, but are kind of turned off by the stench. Any opinions are welcome! :flower:

Tried 4 times and not had good experience's with Alfredo's.Food and service was not good for us.I still think Alfredo's is a restaurant you need to try and form your own opinion on.We will try again some day,not soon but some day. :goodvibes :wizard: :wave2:

I have had much better Italian food, but found the food decent, and we plan to go again on our next trip. DH really liked the grilled veal chop, and I found the Fettuccine with Vodka sauce pretty decent. DD seemed the like the Spaghetti.

Try for yourself. Everone has there own opions. :Pinkbounc

My DH and I always loved Alfredo's until we went this past October....the food was cold, and the "wait" staff couldn''t wait until we got out of there so they could clean up and go home....I will however give it one more try to see if we just hit an off day (it also was the last seating of the night that we had) or if it has gone down hill......

If the negative reviews have you looking for other Italian places I recommend Portobello Yacht Club at DtD. We have enjoyed it several times and have always had a good meal.

This is our 1st trip and we've read some very bad (as well as some good) reviews about Alfredo's. We're going as part of the Candlelight Processional package (we have the dining plan) and I am starting to wonder if we should just cancel the whole thing and take the evening off so that we don't exhaust the kids and have a lousy meal on top of it. The concert sounds nice but I don't know if it is worth the effort. The whole family is really into gourmet Italian food and I'm afraid that to us, Alfredo's will be just plain bad. What do you think? Anything in particular we should avoid/get? We're going for an early dinner before the 6:45 show. Thanks for your advice!

I loved Alfredos! My husband is more of an Olive Garden type of guy and he thought is was overpriced for what we got. We did a meal voucher so we had dessert too. I loved that the most!
