the person at liquor store was adamant that DCL is no longer allowing carryon alcohol. Can a recent cruiser confirm or deny please?

I was skeptical but since I've been at WDW all week I thought I'd check. I reviewed current threads and didn't see anything so I decided to ask.

Danceswithdisney, how do you know this will happen in 2016?

We just got off the 7 night Alaska cruise on the Wonder on Monday and we were allowed to bring alcohol. We brought with us 4 bottles of wine in our carryon. They asked us if we were bringing alcohol, we said yes and they passed the bag through the security scanner. They checked to make sure the bottles were sealed and then let us through. It was not a problem at all.
Also, we had friends traveling with us in another cabin. They brought on board 2 bottles of wine, 1 bottle of vodka and 1 bottle of whiskey. They were asked the same questions, bottles were inspected and they passed them through.
I had called DCL before leaving to confirm that alcohol was allowed. The rep said that alcohol was allowed, as long as the bottles were sealed and they were carried on board with us (in other words, the bottles can not be placed in luggage or a bag that is being "checked in" for the porters to deliver to your room). This meant that we had to carry the bottles with us in one of our bags up the gangway and into the ship and then had to continue carrying it until our room was ready. This was not a problem at all since we boarded at 12:30p and our room was ready at 1:30p.
I also confirmed with the rep that there was no restriction on the type of alcohol (wine, beer, hard liquor) or the container it comes in (glass, can), and that there was no limit.
So, if I wanted to bring on board 3 bottles and my husband 3 more bottles, that would have been fine as long as they were sealed and in my carry-on.

I know for a fact that carry on alcohol will be banned on DCL in 2016. Whether they announce it not remains to be seen!

Just wondering how you know "for a fact" they are banning alcohol. If you could enlighten me it would be appreciated.

If you do a search this has been stated several times - DCL Policy on Alcohol & Beverages:

Q:
May Guests bring alcohol onboard?
A:
While adult Guests ages 21 and older may bring alcohol onboard, the following guidelines apply:

  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
  • Guests who arrive in the dining room with a bottle of champagne or wine that has been brought on board will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.
  • Beverages must be packed in your carry-on bag—which must not exceed 22 inches wide, 14 inches high and 9 inches deep in dimension
  • Coolers filled with personal items (e.g. soda, alcohol, chips, candy, etc.) may not be brought on board.

Please note: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

The people who make statements like this tend to be the ones who never come back to back up the statements they make even though they know it for a fact! I really do enjoy bringing my own Beer on board but I definitely would have no problem if they cut it out and went to Alcohol packages like Carnival and RCCL. I would definitely end up drunker because I would be trying to get everything out of my package because I would know I didn't have that couple of extra Beers to enjoy on my Veranda at night. I really doubt Disney messes with this because it is working.

Thank God I am sailing on the last cruise of 2015!

I also doubt they will restrict alcohol.

The OP's question was alcohol being confiscated. Not how to carry it on.

And most questions are asked again and again no need to be snarky.

Not being snarky, but if it's the policy it won't be confiscated so I think I did answer the OP question. And there was a long thread on this(bringing alcohol on board) just a day or two ago so a search would have come up and the question answered. I believe it was on page 2 yesterday so even just a look at the first or second page if you can't do a search. Also, just trying to give the actual policy from DCL and not what everyone thinks - so many times there is a lot of incorrect information given out.

If you do a search this has been stated several times - DCL Policy on Alcohol & Beverages:
Policies change all the time. I don't think there was anything wrong with the OP asking if the DCL alcohol policy had recently changed.

Just throwing a different light on the OP question, what DCL has done is stopped allowing delivery by outside companies. So if the liquor store had a prior practice of being able to deliver for guests on the ship, this has been terminated. We ran into this in Grand Cayman with the Tortuga Rum store, where they were making arrangements for people to pickup their purchases before boarding the ship rather than the delivery they had previously been doing. I believe this is the same issue that Perfect Gifts (sp?) has with their gift basket delivery.
