Is a Standard View room at Coronado Springs a bad idea?

We have never stayed at Coronado Springs. For the week we are going in Feb. I was hoping to stay at Pop with my 2 teen girls but now there is nothing available. There is, however, a standard view room at Coronado for a good price for 5 of the 6 nights we will be there. I have heard how large/spread out Coronado is so hoped there would be a preferred room available but the price is pretty good on the standard view that I wonder if I should just take that before it is gone? Do they ever give you a better room type when you check in or does this mean we would likely be in the ranchero section? The reviews on Coronado seem so split - either people love it or they hate it - so I don't know if I should grab this room now or wait to see if other things open up...

Standard doesn't necessarily mean Ranchos. You could be in Cabanas or even Casitas. All of the areas are nicely themed and have their own bus stops. With the bridges over the lake now it shoudn't take all that long to get anywhere in the resort.

Standard view rooms would be in Ranchos, Cabanas, or Casitas buildings 4 or 5. Preferred rooms are all in Casitas buildings 1, 2, and 3. So standard rooms can be in any other building, other than the tower.

Now that the bridges are open, I agree with PP that it does help cut the size of the resort since walking is more direct and easier now.

I would also book it just to ensure you have something, and you can always change it if something else opens up. CSR is one of our favorite resorts. Like anything, resort reviews are subjective and should be taken with a grain of salt. What may be unappealing to some may not be an issue to others, and vice versa.

We stayed standard at Coronado on our first trip. We were stuck way in the back ran his section. I had done a little reading and had read that no one wants to be stuck back there and was prepared for the worst. We had a great room right outside the quiet pool, a bus stop right behind our building and the pool was a quick walk and a beautiful one. We could refill our mugs at the pool and only went up to the front a few times. It was a long leisurely walk, but we weren’t in a hurry. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again and request the same area. Not everyone needs or wants to be right next to the main building. Think about how you vacation and it could be right for you.

I would book it! We stayed at CSR last year for a couple of nights and loved it. It’s a gorgeous resort. We actually were upgraded to preferred at check in when we had booked standard. We did not ask for an upgrade. I wouldn’t count on that happening, but thought I’d share our experience in response to your question.

I always find it interesting that people say CSR is so spread out. Last time I was there, I stayed in ranchos and it was a ten minute very leisurely stroll to the main building - to me, that’s hardly a pain. And the bus stop was right behind the building which was great.

Coronado Springs is our favorite resort. I’ve never stayed in the tower, but have been very pleased with all our rooms. Think your teenagers will enjoy it. Have a great trip!

I really, really liked CSR when is stayed there this past April. I had a standard view room and I was in the Cabanas section, right next to the tower. If construction had been completed, I would have had a pathway straight from my room to the lobby. The bus stop was maybe a one minute walk away. I would grab the room. You can always check back to see if anything else opens up, but a standard room is not a massive downgrade IMO.

So everyone before me told you to grab the room and I will chime in as well. We LOVE Coronado! It's our favorite moderate resort. However, we do not like the preferred rooms as we feel that with the new bridges it is closer from the Cabanas and even sometimes Ranchos than the maze that is in Casitas. Book it and enjoy your stay!! We love both Ranchos and Cabanas. You really can't go wrong!

If you have not stayed at CRS since the bridges crossing the lake were finished, they've made the sprawl far less of an issue.

I've stayed in all three sections at CSR and think all of them are great. Ranchos is actually my favorite -- it's like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! Plus, the rooms are beautiful and the resort is great. We're staying there again in May -- I'm hoping for Ranchos again!
