Is a Savannah View worth having less space?

Thank you all so much for your opinions! You have given us things to discuss as a family to help make this easier. It seems like a no brainer, but this will be our first long family vacation so I want to make sure we are taking advantage of the best options for us to enjoy ourselves and also relax a little. We will take all of these thoughts and questions into account and figure it out! I am still undecided, so I will re-check with the 3 of them.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer!! You all are fantastic! :smickey:💙

I went with a two bedroom villa when I went with my step kids. I wanted them to have actual beds to sleep on, not a pull out couch. Also them having their own room allowed us to hang out in the living room after they went to sleep and didn't have to worry about waking them up in the morning when in the kitchen. I really love the savanna view at AKL, but I think in this case the two bedroom would be the way to go. There are a lot of public spaces to view animals.

If I was sure I'd get a good savanna view, I'd go that way, but some savanna views are awful and I'd be upset if I got one of those views knowing I gave up space.

I guess it comes down how important the animals are to you.

But aside from that, will the girls have issues sleeping two rooms away from you? I think my 4 year DGD would be afraid sleeping so far away in a strange place.

The animals are a HUGE part of why we are staying there, my currently 8 year old (she's 9 in October) picked it to be able to see all the animals. So I really would be kicking myself if we don't get a good view or don't spend enough time in our room seeing the animals. I am going to ask the girls what they think about room vs possible view and go from there.

Thankfully, my girls love "Sister Sleepovers" so my youngest would be fine either in the next room or a room away. She ALWAYS finds me when she wants to. LOL! Thank you for your thoughts!

If you're going to be spending enough time in the room to enjoy a savannah view, that means you'll be in the room long enough where space may be an issue. But is it just 2 adults and the 2 kids in a one bedroom? If so, I don't think that's too bad of a space for four people. But I agree with PPs that there are many places to enjoy the savannahs, often with better views, throughout the resort.

It is just the 4 of us, but this will be our first real, full length family vacation with no one else involved. So I really don't know what to expect! I have asked the girls and they would be happy with either room, so I am leaning toward the 2 bedroom so we all have our own "space" even though it may be a little overkill. I'm thinking of my husband and I, ultimately, and what will help us most to keep our sanity. Hahaha! Especially if the girls are happy no matter what. :)

Assuming there is no flexibility in rooms for the DVC side at 4 months out from travel? We do the pullout for our girls on a lot of our trips and they complain but they get over it pretty fast.

We've stayed in a regular 2 queen savanna view room with our girls, ages 9 and 11 at the time, they loved the animals. They want to go back to AKL on our next trip and said they wouldn't want to stay there unless they could wake up with the animals again. If staying in a larger space is more important than go for it but IMO the animals is why you stay at AKL.

FWIW I have stayed at AKL four times now and have seen animals from my room every time but one and have never booked Savannah view, so you may get the best of both worlds.

Thank you! I had heard that that can happen quite a bit which is part of why I thought of going with the 2 bedroom. Thank you for sharing!!

Savannah view. There is something magical about stepping out on the balcony and knowing you are guaranteed to be on the Savannah. Sipping morning coffee and watching animals from the privacy of your own balcony is awesome. I just stayed in a 2 bedroom Savannah in January with my in-laws and the 2 bedrooms are huge! I know my two girls, ages 10 and 2, would not feel comfortable sleeping in the second bedroom alone. I'd end up having to sleep with them and give up the awesome king sized bed. My husband would get to enjoy it all alone and I'd be resentful :rotfl:.... but that might not be an issue for you.... just something to think about. They'd feel a bit closer and not so alone in a one bedroom. Either way you'll love it!

I have stayed at the AKV at Kidani Village as pointed out you can get plenty of animal views through the windows and in the outdoor space provided. Space is a premium I am a fan of the 1br units only issue is those pull outs are not the most comfortable things to sleep on, but they are kids. They can each have their own as I believe that both chairs in the living room are pull outs.

I have stayed in the 2 br units when my son and his family travel with us (S,W,C,C) we get that unit and his whole family can stay in the 2nd BR with 2 queen beds and their own bathroom. Leaving the living room free to relax in without disturbing others.

Your choice for me it would not matter 1br or 2br but it would always be the stanard view as I don't see the value of the extra points for the Savanna view.

This is exactly us! Plus, my kids would have been bugging us to take them to a viewing area constantly when we were in the room if we didn't have a Savannah view. So the 'relaxing' in the room probably wouldn't happen much, lol.

Also OP, if you're going for the 2 bedroom, I'd want it to be a dedicated 2 bedroom, not the ones with the door to the hallway in the 2nd bedroom. That would make me too nervous with my kids 2 rooms away and a door accessible to the hallway, where I couldn't hear anything.

Good call! If we end up with one, I will make sure there is only 1 door! I think that may only be in the 2 bedroom lockouts which I made sure to not request, but I will check on that! Thank you!
