Is a Jacket really required for Guys on 4 Night Cruise?

First Time Cruisers in August. We are going on the 4 night cruise in August and I have seen varying reports on how dressed up people get. We are trevelling from the UK and the less I have to bring the better. There are no formal nights but we intend to go to Palos and the question I have is will I need a jacket & tie or will a smart shirt and dress trousers be OK?

You can do without the jacket. A nice shirt and tie will be perfect! On my last cruise, there was a gentlman with a nice suit on and tennis shoes! I guess he had to make a choice and the dress shoes lost out!!

I would suggest and jacket and tie for Palo, as I've read another thread here that a couple was turned away because the man had a tie, but no jacket.

WOW, don't remember reading about anyone being turned away for no jacket. I just talked DH out of bringing the jacket for our 4 day. Showed him plenty of posts that said slacks, dress shirt and tie were fine. Do remember reading about someone being turned away in jeans though. Guess we will make room for the jacket!

A jacket is not absolutely necessary. You can get by without it.

We'll be on the 4 day as well. Is a tie necessary for lunch time? I would think it would be for dinner, but at noon?

I wasn't shouting...shouting would have been in all caps. I was just trying to emphazise to the original writer not to worry about bringing a jacket. DCL wants you to have a great time...and I highly doubt they would turn a man in a shirt and tie away from the restaurant, esp. since I have seen men in there in sneakers. By the way, my 20 year old didn't have a jacket and they were fine with that.

Jacket not necessary....My DH was never turned away from Palo's from wearing no jacket. I don't think Disney would do that.

Men who do not wear jackets in Palo are most definitely few and far between....the vast, vast majority of men wear jackets...It is a very special place onboard, and IMO should be treated as such...

Is it really that much of an imposition to pack a blue blazer and pair of khakis....?

But don't you think that the predominance of jackets are present on the 7-day cruises when everyone has to pack dressier clothes anyway? And that on the 3- and 4-day cruises there are less men wearing jackets at Palo because it tends to be a more casual cruise?

Just a thought...

I have read and heard from the Disney cruise CM's that the 4 day is much more casual. So my DH won't be packing a jacket for a brunch. But, I would like to ask again, is it really necessary to have a tie for the brunch? Isn't a nice shirt and pants all he needs for this time of day?

Jillpie, I haven't gone yet but I just went back and read WebmasterPenny's helpful links and it addresses your question. It says for daytime events at Palo slacks and a polo type shirt are suggested. So I say no tie is okay.

Based on our 7 day experience in April:

Brunch - more casual - looked like people came from tennis courts or golf

Dinner - all men wore jackets, appeared to be much dressier.

Jacket for men required on 4 night cruise..NO...unless you want a reservation at Palo for dinner one night..then you will need the Jacket.

Although the 3 and 4 day cruises are in general more casual, evenings at Palo are still "dressier"....Jackets on men are the norm...

I am not planning on having DH pack his jacket (the only one he owns is the suit he had made for our wedding!) for our (4 night) cruise - and we definately plan on Palo's (hopefully on Valentine's night if I can get the ressie). I have no concern that he will not look "dressed". We go out to a number of really nice/pishyposhy restaurants at home and he never wears a jacket. There are so many stores that sell upscale dress shirts, pants etc that I think a man can look really "dressy" and classy with just a shirt. I like the men's looks in Mexx personally and get DH to check that store out whenever he needs something to wear to a wedding or whatever. Anyway, this is just IMO but we will be feelin' hip and swank in our duds - I would rather be comfortable and enjoy my dinner.

Per the Navigators for the 4 night (Thanks, Barb!), and I quote:

For Tritons
"A jacket is recommended for men and a dress or pantsuit recommended for women."

For Palo
"Jacket recommended; No shorts or jeans please."

So, if your DH is a jacket kinda guy, follow the recommended dress and pack a jacket. If he would rather go to the proctologist than wear a jacket, pack a nice dress shirt and tie, and that'll do. My DH skipped the jacket in Tritons, but wore a jacket and tie in Palo, and he fit in fine both places.

I am all about following the recommended dress, but we scoped out Tritons early seating to see what the guys were wearing and very few had jackets. Jackets were the norm in Palo, however. (They didn't have the brunch then, so I can't help with that one.)
