Mum and I did an on-site trip last year without a car and we went off site a few times to go shopping.
We managed fine with Lynx buses, but to be honest, some of the trips were long and we waited at Florida Mall for 45 minutes for our return bus and had to walk all over DTD with our bags to get to our connecting bus back to the hotel.

I think I'd like a car next time, even on site...

We've just booked with Hertz because it seemed a good price for hotel to hotel. It was only 311euros (about £259) for a basic car for fourteen days. I don't know whether people have already got this code, but I used '1841383' for a 20% discount.

Glad you are sorted. I just tried the code, for 2 weeks in August. 7 seater minivan it brings the price down from £1,022 to £920

Compared to £329 with Holiday Autos. No idea what is wrong with Hertz pricing for our dates, I do prefer to use Hertz but not at almost 3 times the price.

I used the same dates, collection/drop point and car with Alamo as scoobydooby so you can compare.
Thru this link the cheapest car shows at £209.95 less 14% QUidco = £180.56
£71 cheaper than scoobydooby's price but going thru an agent rather than direct to Alamo.

Personally I would wait for a code that would reduce it even further, just now the only one I can see only works upto 31st August, WEATHER15 gives £15 off.

We have had a car every time, but next year Aug 14 we are doing a combination. Car transfers to RPH, transfer RPH to CBR and then 11 night car hire while we are at OKW. This is the cheaper option for us. We want use the car the frost 9 nights and I don't want to pay $18 a night parking at RPH. I would not be with out a car it s essential part of the holiday for us.

Sorry you are too late for this year, they are now on with next year, in past years you have been able to book the second half of August on the US site with free dining but they are not starting til Sept this year.
