Is a 10 night stay too long for Christmas?

Fellow DVC'ers help me out. We have a 10 night trip in a 1 bedroom booked at AKV. We'll be there from Dec 23rd through Jan 2nd. Being that the parks are going to be super crowed and we won't be riding many rides, would we get bored staying that long? Is it worth blowing 305 points to stay for that many nights? Or will we be able to find plenty to do to fill up all those days? Any insight on Holiday travel would be greatly appreciated!

I think it is awesome:cool1: that you can go for that long! Of, course I have never been at Christmas time. Good Luck!!

I think you'll love it!!! Spent 13 nights over Christmas/NYE and would have stayed longer. There is so much to see -- with all the extra time you can explore the resorts that all have so much to see and do in themselves with the special Christmas displays.

Will you have a car? There are other things in the Orlando area that are worth seeing like Ice at Gaylord Palms and Leu Gardens. I think I could probably spend the whole time at Disney, but you might have some sort of list of "other possibilities."

Lucky you!

Bobbi:goodvibes

We just stayed at AKV Dec. 20-26...and loved it!!

The only thing I would do if I were you is move up the dates of my trip (which may be impossible, I know).

We noticed a huge jump in crowd size on Sunday Dec. 23. The crowd size seemed to triple that day.

By going a little earlier, you'd be able to attend MVMCP also. We had a great time...except it was freezing that night!:cold:

Thanks for the advice so far. Yes, we will have a car and I wish we could move the dates up, but can't because I'm a teacher. I'm stuck to the school calendar. I stinks because I wonder if we'll ever be out of school in time for me to see MVMCP one day. :confused3

You will be fine. AKV and SSR have tons of fun for everyone. This will be our second holiday trip this upcoming year, and believe me the crowds are fine if you take the time to do things in moderation. Think positive:thumbsup2

I think you'll have a ball. We stayed 7 nights this past year (12/26 - 1/2) and we hit the parks early, back in our villa by mid afternoon. We had plenty of time for naps, time in the jacuzzi tub, reading, watching TV (something we never do). The parks are open later then, too, so you can always head back out for a few hours in the evening. I think you'll find plenty of time to do what you want. Just make sure you take advantage and get to the parks at opening.

Have a great trip!

I don't know how to post a link, but there is a DVC trip report from Christmas 2006 over on the trip report boards.

The report is quite lengthy, but it gives you a good idea of Christmas with DVC.

We stay at least 2 weeks every Holiday and we always hate to leave.

And that is just at WDW. No daytrips, etc.

Just hanging out around the resort, hitting the occasional park, dining etc.

My job shuts down for the holidays, so I think of what i would be doing at home (shopping, cleaning, taking the boys to Putt-Putt) and a day at WDW is always better than any of that:wizard:

I think you will have a great time, and you really need the extra days to avoid the extra crowds.

Dont forget the Member Merry Mixer too:santa:

We planned our trip around the early entry or expanded evening hours. We would get a fast pass for the ride we really wanted, then hit a couple of other rides before it gets crowded. It worked pretty good. I must say AK is great at night.

eyeheartgoofy, I'll head over to the trip reports and look that one up. Thanks!

We just booked to stay for 10 nights in Dec. The 26th to Jan 4th. We can't wait. I too was a little worried because it sounds like it will be very crowded, but maybe that will make us sit back and relax a little. We usually spend the entire day and night in the park, so now we can enjoy SSR a little more. And we can also spend some time checking out the other resorts holiday decorations.

Based on the advice I've gotten here, I think we'll also spend some time just checking things out. I would love to see the decorations at the other resorts and do the "must do" stuff like the candelight processional dinner package and the osborne spectacle of lights. Maybe this time we'll finally play a round of golf like we keep saying we'll do. ;)

This year we stayed two weeks at Christmas, and we also noticed the jump in amounts of people at the parks. I think it was due to the locals attending. I have noticed for several years that locals head over to the MK on
christmas morning, but I didn't expect to see so many people at the parks before Christmas. However, we used the time to visit the resorts to check out their decorations, and found that we enjoyed the relaxed pace. We even played golf on Christmas Day, a real hoot :goodvibes for us Midwesterners. We decided to go again this Christmas for two weeks, and got a GV at OKW, so we HAVE to spend more time at the resort, to enjoy the use of all those points!:happytv:

Wow, 2 weeks in a GV! If only I had that many points at OKW. Guess I'll just have to dream:cloud9:
