I love Fantasia Gardens but I'm not sure if my DS who is 5, will enjoy himself. It will be me, my DH, DD who is 12, and DS. Anyone have any experience with young ones at minigolf?

We like minigolf and so we take the kids. It really depends on how much you want to be a stickler for the rules. Our kids do pretty good at the concept but get bored with the "real" rules so we are sorta flexible with them. We do try to get them to understand and follow the basic rules but sometimes we allow them a extra chance to putt or whatnot....

I agree. If you are okay with being a little flexible with the rules, then 5 is fine for minigolf. When DD was that young, I might occassionally put my foot in a certain location to keep a ball from rolling too far (especially if it was going to roll all the way back to the tee). And we really didn't keep track of her strokes.

Mine have all done it (7,5 and 3) and we just have to know when to call it on a hole. I try to reinforce some rules (like don't pick up the ball and stay off the green when it's someone else's turn) but others you just have to let go int he interest of sanity and time. Also, DH and I usually don't plan on all of us golfing. So for the 5 of us, we only pay for 3 or 4 assuming that one of us will team up with the 3 year old and another might team with the 5 year old (although now he's getting to where he wants to do it himself). If we all 5 had balls and putters, we'd be there forever by the time we help each of them.

Ds has been playing since he could walk BUT we are not serious players, we just have fun and often don't even keep score. Just insist your child remain with your party and not play ahead, don't let your child hold up a group behind you, let them play though if you are slow, and try to choose a time that is not too busy. I love mini golf pictures and often I don't play so I can be the picture taker! Go...have fun.

5 is old enough and 5 is old enough to play correctly! By 5 they were playing by the rules. You have a 12 yr old with you so I would make the 5yr stick to the rules pretty much. It isn't fun to try and play if your younger sibling is goofing around too much.

I think it can be a great age to start playing, but it can depend on the child too. Do you have a mini golf place near you that you could try out before your trip?

My dd 4 has been playing since she was 3 because her brother loves playing. Actually the both love playing and would play it all the time.

By 5, my kids do great! Of course, the rules are relax a bit. My middle child had a blast by 2 - but would always put the ball right near the hole. My youngest at 3 is too young and bores easily and likes to throw the ball. I expect he'll be ready by 5 easily.

Last summer we went mini-golfing at Fantasia Gardens with my kids then 5, 3, and 2. My five year old loved it so much that on our last afternoon my DH and DD5 went to Winter Summerland. She wanted to go again this summer, but we didn't get around to it and she seemed preoccupied with the other stuff we came up with.

We took my 2 year old to a mini-golf place a few weeks ago. She by no means played by the rules, but she had fun trying. I think a 5 year old would be fine.
