Is $37 a lot to pay for a haircut?

I just came back from my salon and my stylist is raising her price for a shampoo, cut, and style to $37 (before tip). It was $32.

I will pay it because I am picky and she does my hair just the way I like it. Before I moved to this town this past summer, I was paying $23.

Is this a lot? How much do you pay?

I pay 40 plus tip which I do 20% and then the shampoo girl so its about $50 bones!!

I pay $17 before tipping. But I'm not too picky, I can be happy with a Fantastic Sam's cut for $11 too.

I pay about $40 including tip. But, the lady that cuts my hair has been doing it for almost 10 years. She knows what styles I like and dislike.

I pay $30.00 including tip. My regular hairdresser was on vacation the last time I needed a cut so I went to someone else at the same salon and she charged more, I wasn't happy but I should have asked before hand if she had a different price. Next time if my regular isn't there I just won't get it cut. This one did not do what I asked and then charged more. But to answer you question, no, I don't think 37.00 is too much really. It's more than I want to pay but if my regular stylist raised her prices I'd still go to her because she knows how I like my hair cut. I just wasn't happy paying more to this one who didn't do what I asked her to.

I think that's a very good price for all that you're getting. I pay $40 for a cut and style, that doesn't include the tip. I don't think that's too much, I have friends that pay $45 for the cut alone.

I don't think it's too bad. People always say to me "who cuts your hair...it always looks so good" so I tell them and then they ask about the price and their jaws drop.

They say, "I would never pay that much for a hair cut" and I think to myself...that's why my hair looks good and yours doesn't.

:smooth:

shampoo, cut, blow dry - $45 before tip. I say it's well worth it. DH who pays $13 before tip at the local barbershop for a cut, neck shave and scalp massage thinks its excessive.

For around $35, including tip I get my hair washed, cut and styled. As well as my eye brows waxed and DD's hair washed, cut and styled. I really don't know what an individual cut cost since I only get my hair done with it is time for one of the girls to get their's cut.

I currently pay $40 not including tip for my hair cut. I used to only pay $20 but I am very picky and only one person has made me feel totally comfortable with a hair cut, so I'll pay the $40

I currently pay 27.00 for a wash cut and blow dry.
I wouldnt be upset over the actual price, but over the $5.00 increase. Thats a lot for one time. When I started going to my salon it was $16.00. While it has gone up 11.00 since then(13+ years, 3 different owners), it was no more than 1.00 or 2.00 at a time. Thats not too tough to take.

Holy cow!!! For $10 plus chocolate chip cookies (tip), I get wash, cut and style!

I would not pay $40 for a haircut every three weeks.... if that is what it costs to "look good" then I am happy looking bad and using the money I save to go to Disney World! :D

I usually pay $25 or $30 and then give a $5 tip. I wouldn't pay much more than that since I never get anything too complicated.

This is an interesting thread. I grumble to pay $12. I have straight hair and want a straight cut, not exactly rocket science. DH pays $5 before tip.

Fancy cuts tend to require time and effort every day to look good. No thanks. I'll stick with looking clean and simple!

Peggy

I just got my haircut yesterday for $45 plus the $7 tip for wash, conditioning, cut and blow dry/style.
I have been going to the same hairdresser for a long time. When I first started it was $25. then they did the studio over, turning it into a real fancy smancy place. Everything is color co-ordinated, black chairs, black marble counters, all black equipment now, the blow driers match the scissors, and the combs and brushes. And the walls are done in Gold painted like marble. Needless to say the prices rose to $40.
I won't pay that so I started going to the local Haircutters and got the $12 cut. They sprayed my hair with water, cut it and I walked out with wet hair. Within two days my hair looked messy and I couldn't get it to behave.
After skipping the expensive place for 6 months I went back and the prices went up again, but when I walked out my hair bounced, I love the way it feels when I shake my head, and I washed it this morning and fixed it just like she did.
So although the >$50 haircut is expensive it makes me feel good, "and Frankly I'm worth it" Peggie

Hair is one of the things that I am the LEAST picky about. I go to two different places and pay no more than $15.

I really don't care, and I am not picky. Ihave also been known to get out trimming scissors (shears) and do it myself for no cost!

My DH bought some clippers (he's mostly bald) and I do his hair... my aunt is a hairstylist and tought me how to do it. I also do my sons hair.. (usually a number 5 or 6 cut, a 4 if its really bad!)

My DH and I do our daughters bangs, and in between she will get a end trim or cut. I can do her hair, but she squirms a lot. I get comments on how it looks good even when I do it.. so I must be doing something right!

$15 for a wash and cut. Don't need the blow dry or a set as my hair has a natural curl to it and drys quickly. Just scrunch and go. Now I will pay more if I get a manicure and pedicure or a massage. I love a neck, shoulders and back massage as well as hand massages. Guess that is the terp in me. Need my hands looking good.

$32 for a cut, and $40 with eyebrows.
My stylist owns the shop, and it's just him, so I don't tip him, except at Xmas.

$11.00 + tip for a shampoo cut & blow dry/style and sometimes a popsicle for my ds

I found a lady who cuts hair from an addition at her home. She doesn't have the high overhead of a salon

My hair looks no different than when I've had more pricey cuts.
