Is $198 roundtrip + charges ($99 ea. way) with 1 stop good airfare from Detroit?

Checked Southwest.

Detroit to Orlando $99 each way (Internet Special) with one stop.

That is $198 per person (plus taxes and charges)

total is $935 for 4 people.

Is that a good price?

Thanks.

It depends on when you're flying. If you're flying over the holiday season in December, it's a good price. Otherwise, you can probably do better waiting a week or 2. Also, since you're considering a flight with a stop, check out some of the smaller airports such as Toledo (TOL) or Flint (FNT)...... sometimes it's cheaper to fly out of those airports and with less airport congestion.

Good luck!!!

I have to agree w/Beast fan we got 136.00 rt non-stop dtw-mco on northwest but we are going in October. A travel agent once told me that 99.00 one way is pretty much standard from dtw-mco but you can usually get cheaper. Good luck.

It is over President's week.
Feb 12 - Feb 19 (Sat to Sat).
Thanks for your replies. :)

Those are the dates we are trying to get, but I haven't found anything close to that. Plus the fact the I can't get DH to drive to Detroit to fly. I was/am hoping to find something around 200.... less would be wonderful!

I'm with you guys....we're trying for Feb 9 - 19th and I still haven't seen anything that makes me want to jump. I keep hoping they'll come down just a bit. I'd be happy with $200 pp. but I really prefer nonstop since we have a 4 and 6 year old...that makes it a bit harder.

If I see anything, I'll pass it along to you two if you'll keep me posted as well!

Deb

Deb, sure will. Our dates are 2/11-20. If I can talk DH into flying from somewhere other than Grand Rapids we might have to wait to fly out on 2/12, but to save $$ I'll do it!

MichDISer:

Just a note - Presidents' Day is February 21, 2005. So you are going the week BEFORE Presidents' Week.

I just purchased tickets yesterday from Detroit to Orlando for February 12 - 17th (we are taking the Disney Cruise on Feb. 13th). I bought one way tickets on Southwest (one stop - no change) for the outbound trip and one-way tickets on Spirit (non-stop) for the return flight. Cost me almost $300 per person, but I had a $400 credit at SWA that I needed to use, so it didn't seem as bad. I am hoping the SWA tickets will come down and that I will get a credit for future travel.

I think $198 roundtrip out of Detroit isn't too bad at that time of year. I paid $258 per person on SWA last year at that time.

Did you try Spirit? They fly non-stop to Orlando from Detroit.

I just checked Spirit for your dates.

They are very high. I would take the $198 roundtrip on SWA.

Yep, I was just going to post that they are higher.
although, I wonder if now that SWA has released their fares, will the other airlines try to beat the price? (I read here one time that the other's follow suit of SWA)

I guess my dates ARE before President's week. In the past, our district had no school DURING President's week.
I was wondering why the WDW resorts were VALUE priced for the first half of my week - now I know why.

I was very happy when I saw that my son's winter break was the week BEFORE Presidents' Week. It helps with the hotels and our cruise fare was cheaper too.

We are staying one night before our cruise at WDW (haven't decided where yet), but it is value season and that is great!!!

Good luck finding cheaper airfare.

Another thing I wanted to mention. If you stay onsite at WDW and check in during value season (which you will if you arrive on February 12), you will have the same rate all week. It will not go up for your dates that fall in Peak Season.

Yes, I saw that and we can even switch resorts (for variety) as long as we switch on the 15th. :)

I think that's high and especially because you have a stop ... I was almost ready to give up on finding a low fare for my dates (dec.17-24) but I ended up getting roundtrip tickets for 175 (taxes included) each on Southwest..... Check every day until you find a better fare since you aren't going until Feb. ! Check ATA and sign up for their specials.....and Spirit also !! good luck !

I'm in a similar position, going a week later: 2/19-2/26. Lowest fare from any area airport (DTW/TOL/FNT/LAN) is $250, includes a stop. Lowest direct is about $285. For the moment, I'm planning to hold out a bit, maybe until January---spirit has only crept up, but NWA may come back down. NWA fares have come down slightly over the last few months, particularly for the direct flights.

It's a gamble. If $200 is near your "limit", you might want to lock it in now. Or, it might go down later. If I could get anywhere close to $200 for my week, I'd take it. Once my best options all get close to $300, I'll probably give up and bite.
