Is 17 years old considered "a child"?

I was just on People.com (People magazine) and they had a poll to rate the hottest chest amongst the guys from "Twilight/New Moon". There is a guy there named Taylor Lautner (born in 1992) who is 17 years old. If People magazine is geared toward a certain age group (adult women), is this inappropriate?

Even though 17 is so close to being an adult IMO it isn't appropriate in that magazine. Also I agree he is a very nice looking young man. Better than Robert JMO.

Yes in my eyes that's still a young kid, I went to a twlight thingy with my dd and was embarrassed by some of the moms going crazy over these young kids, it really struck me wrong.
It really does creepy me out big time, enjoying a movie is one thing, losing your lunch over a young kid is another...just gross

OMG I didn't know that.

However, when I opened the pictures all I thought was that these were little boys trying to be grown ups. I think we need to go back to Top Gun days if they're looking for good chests.

Whether or not he's legally a child, he's sexually mature and women will sense that instinctually when looking at him. There's nothing wrong with it. It's only a picture.

It depends on the state what the age of majority is. I guess it doesn't bother me in this context, but the inverse would be disturbing (with a 17 y/o female). A complete double standard, lol. I'm only 25 but it makes me feel old when the newest hot guy is all of 17 years old.

Remember the number of people & publications that constantly talked about when the Olsen twins would become legal? I don't personally find 17 year old boys hot, but People isn't exactly pornographic. Not that big of a deal to me. Younger than 17 I might take an issue with, however.
