Is 10 days too long?

you'll be here on the first half of May. good for you. the weekdays won't be bad, but the crowds will build toward the weekends. before we moved here, our first vacation was the first 2 weeks of May. we did it all plus seaworld, Universal/Islands of Adventure, and a day at cocoa beach. we also stayed at ASMo. tour the parks on the weekdays, and don't overplan extra magic hours and all of those things. relax, and you'll get a feel for it once you're here. if you don't stress it out, you're going to have time to kill. :)

I guess I should add that the person whose advice I am taking here is my father.. he was recently on a business trip to Orlando and declared himself thoroughly worn out after spending 1/2 day in Epcot! LOL :)

Well, my family has me terrified.

We're planning our first trip to Disney... heck, our first family vacation ever. It will be myself (28), DH, and our two boys (7 and 4). We're flying down and staying 11 days/10 nights at ASMo.

Everyone (non Disney nuts) says that 10 days is way too long and we'll be exhausted rather than having a good time.

What do you pros think? Should I shorten up the stay?

I think 10 days could be a lot more relaxing- you can devote time to enjoy a variety of things and go at a slower pace. You don't *have* to be at the park from opening till close to get certain things "done".

You could enjoy water parks, pools, and (one of my favorite things to do) explore some other resorts and maybe some of their restaurants- definitely make time for the Boardwalk!

And yes, you could wear yourself out in a day if you try to do too much. You could also pick out some fun activities and spread them out over your ten days and come back with memories of some fun exciting times as well as some much needed r and r. Only you can decide what will work for you. It's your vacation and you can make it anything you wish. There are people that go for a week and never leave their resort except for an occasional meal. Then there are people that sleep four hours and dash back into the parks. Most of us will want to be in the middle of the extremes.

So, no, I definitely wouldn't advise shortening the stay- I can't see how that would make your trip any more restful or enjoyable.

Have an awesome trip!

And I recently went on a 3 days in WDW, 4 day Disney Cruise, 3 more days in WDW vacation during New Year's and I am going back to WDW for 14 days, 13 nights, in August and then AGAIN next Dec for another 3 days in WDW plus 4 day Disney Cruise. There's always something new to do, and I love being able to do it all at a relaxing pace.

In one word: NO. Don't listen to bad advice. Ten days gives you an opportunity to kick back, not get crazy rushing around and to spend quality family time. You don't have to spend every second in the parks. All 4 parks offer plenty to do and your family will have a magical time exploring each one. pixiedust: Take your time, :hourglass smell the coffee, :coffee: and remember to enjoy YOUR vacation.party:

two words
too short

I agree 100%

I am going for 14 days in March and that trip is almost to short. I take my time, I don't rush, I enjoy the resort more, I take the time to smell the roses. When I am on a 7 day trip there is just so much to do and see in such a short time that I feel rushed.

10 days!!! sounds like a perfect trip to me. Have a great time!

nope - not long enough
DS & I went for 14nights last Aug
doing it again this Aug. We're planning on the first 5days doing the parks commando style while staying at VWL (shhhh dont tell DS!), then relaxing at the AKL 3 days, then changing to BCV when we're also planning 2days Univ and 1day SeaWorld.

We always go for AT LEAST 10 days, usually two full weeks. You can RELAX and enjoy the experience, and not feel like you have to cram everything into just a few days. And yes: you can just CHILL OUT one or two days!

Plus, you have an opportunity to explore The World a bit more, to really feel like a resident, not a tourist :goodvibes

Best of all -- you have ample time to revisit some of your favorite attractions again and again.

Have fun!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: 10 years... thats about right Id say?!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I am also very jealous--My DH has started a new job and can only take 7 days! I will be bawling at hte desk when it comes time to turn in the key--I agree 10 YEARS sounds good!!!! :hourglass

10 days sounds great! We've gone 5-8 days and could have stayed for more. Enjoy and Congrats! :thumbsup2

Def not to short! Look at all of us Brits, we come for 2 weeks MINIMUM usually. It will man you can have a great holiday, not have top rush around and may get time to go and see other things as well....... maybe universal?

We always do ten nights when we go. It's never enough in my eyes. Ten nights gives you the extra time to slow down and enjoy yourself. Especially with young ones. You will have a great time and be so happy you went that long.

Four years now and with 2 weeks on site each time, never long enough !! apart from 1 day out each time for seaworld and shopping its every day in the parks.

We have been on a 10 day before. We stayed at AS Sports with our 2 kids. Please keep in mind while there to take it all in as it comes and enjoy! Dont feel like you have to be at the parks right when they open and then close the place each night. Again, enjoy!

We just got back from a 15 day trip in Dec. and it was great! It took me 1 day and I was ready to go back. Course that was traveling time so I had to think about driving safely :thumbsup2

Have fun!

:cool1:

This will be our 21st trip in 2 weeks! :cool1: :sunny:

We go to WDW/Orlando/KeyWest for nearly 2 weeks.
Try renting a car and seeing the community of Orlando, lots to do, lots to do at DD and check out the towh of Celebration, that's where we go especially for dinner. It's less touristy after 6:00pm and there's some great resteraunts that are kid friendly! The town itself has expanded and has alot to offer!

Orlando has an Arts Community, some great museums, the touristy Ripley's/
Don't forget Sea World, I know I know I am talking about other than WDW
sorry folks, but over the years we do space our trip out and do alot more than WDW. We LOVE WDW!!!

Having so much time at WDW you can space out your days, one day go to the Park the next day hang out near the pool or take the bus to another hotel and eat lunch there, there's so much to do and enjoy!

Have alot of fun!
Enjoy!

If you want any more tips email me. :goodvibes
Since we have gone so much there's so much to do in the area.
:sunny:

Don't forget to go to the boardwalk at night, lots of activities going on for the family! From mime's to comics to arcade games! :cloud9:

so much to do, so little time....lol! :cheer2:

I don't think that is long enough. We like a minimum of 10 nights and 11 days. We've been going that many days even when the kids were only 1 year old.

I may be in the minority here, but my family would go crazy on a 10 day vacation. We take alot of short trips 4-5 days at the most. Our last vacation was a 4 day land 3 day cruise and that was good because it was like 2 separate vacations, but with my bunch 10 days at Disney would be too much.

But every family is different, but even with taking it easy and going at a relaxed pace, my bunch is ready to go home after 5 days.

The weather in May is pretty perfect usually. If it were me I would get up and go to the EMH park for EMH hours or a non EMH park for opening. I would go and enjoy myself till about noon, then head back to the hotel for quiet time (nap) and a swim. I'd probably head out of the hotel again at about 4PM for afternnon touring and/or dinner. You can get an amazing amount of stuff done by noon every day, and still get that rest in the hottest part of the day. Not to mention your kids will probably love the pool time each day. As an adult I find the nap/ quiet time to be most important, I can only imagine how much more important it is for a child.

Then maybe on the 3rd and 7th day of the trip I would plan to go to a water park. These are the days you can sleep in a bit because you don't need to get to the water park till they open, usually about 10. (Although being about 30 minutes early gives you a better choice of seating if you are worried about the shade, or being close to the kiddie area.)

You could even schedule a day to just enjoy your resort for the morning/ early afternoon and then go out later.

Hope this helps. :)

My sons are 8 and 4 now. youngest has been 2x for 10 days each and oldest 3x for 10 days each. We like this cause it gives us lots of time. When you look at all there is to do this is not too long.

MK - 2 days
Epcot - 2 days
MGM - 1 day
AK - 1 day
BB - 1 day
TL - 1 day
Shopping and Relaxing - 1 day
Visiting favourite rides again - 1 day

That adds up to 10 days

We try not to burn the kids out by having them back at the resort by their usual bedtime (8:00pm) Then they get to have a swim, and off to bed by 9:00pm. We usually only stay out for fireworks or Fantasmic 2x on a 10 day trip, or else the kids get too tired and cranky.
