From what I can tell (with only having two examples) I still "owed" money after using the CTC last year and I got the advance credit, even though the EIC wiped out what I would have "owed." A friend who only works PT and did not qualify for the CTC (but did qualify for the Addtional CTC) did not get the advance CTC. So my guess is if you used the CTC on your taxes and still owed money (regardless of elegiblity for EIC) then you qualify for this advance CTC, if you couldn't use it or used part of it and it wiped out all your taxes owed then you don't qualify.

I agree that is kinda screwy to be giving money to those who would not be paying. Though it was nice to get the money just in time for back to school shopping.

You got that right disneychrista! As soon as I deposited the check in the bank yesterday the kids and I were off to buy clothes and back to school supplies - with 3 of them to buy for it arrived just in time!

Anyone else still waiting? We received our letter saying ours was mailed on the 8th but as of today the 14th, no check. I just know it went to the wrong house.

My letter stated that I would be getting $400 for each of my children born after 12/31/86!!!! My son was born 9/86 & was only 15 last year.....did I not have to support him (am I not still supporting him today at 16 years old)!!!!!?????? I did get $800 total ($400 each daughter) so I am happy for that I guess. Like I said...my letter stated the birth cut off date, nothing about how much we made or paid in taxes.....just that they needed to have been born AFTER 12/31/86. I don't understand how they calculate that!!!!! I got my letter the day before the check.....

Tracy, I'm in Alabama too, and haven't received my check and it was supposed to be mailed the 8th also. I'm glad to see your post. I was starting to get worried. This makes me feel a little better.

Your reply makes me feel better. The IRS says you can't complain until Sept. 5th, that's 3 weeks from tomorrow. Oh well, I'll just keep hoping. My trip isn't until Dec. anyway. I just want it in my little hand now.

BTW- I grew-up in Mobile, and still drive to Fairhope to eat sometimes when we visit.

Tracy, Our trip is the week after Thanksgiving (1st week of Dec.) too. I want the money so I can go ahead and purchase my tickets. I'm like you though, I want that money in hand so they can't change their mind!

DH grew up here, I'm a transplant from FL. I love this area. We go to Mobile about once a week. DH's family has a few businesses in Baldwin County so we will probably always live here, so I guess it's a good thing that I like it.

As soon as I get my check I'll post back here. I would appreciate you doing the same. Thanks!

Well, I had checked online... and it said it was due to be mailed out the 8th...
Reading here on the boards, and talking with a few friends of ours, i gathered that most people, were getting the letter one day, ck next...
we got our letter monday... i was happy... thinking ok... tues=check!
well, we didnt get it tues or wed... finally thurs we did!
Now, if I can hang onto it....lol
When we found out we were getting it, we thought hmmm... we could use that for our new living room furniture... but, with our vacation less than 2 weeks away, I am thinking hey... we could splurge a little more! So, I got my hubby a reservation for parasailing today! He will be super excited!
Keep your fingers crossed... it is coming!

We were glad to get the check so that we could buy our hoppers. Without that check, a trip to Disney would be near impossible. I run a business out of my home, so I have to pay in $450 every quarter to cover income taxes. I know that a few people weren't happy about how the gov't. figured out who got what, but it really does boil down to what you've claimed, paid in and paid out before in comparison with the projections for next year. The fact that you exist on this board means that you've been to Disney or have plans to go and if you can afford that, then don't complain about the CTC. Many people I know wish they could afford something to eat beyond hotdogs, let alone go to Disney!! We should all count our blessings, many a child out there will NEVER see Disney and all it's splendor!! We thank God every day that we are going to go, just once, this November.
