Irritations While Out Shopping Yesterday

:sad2: I can't understand, OP, why it would be ok to purposely bump someone just because they're not moving fast enough for you in line. It's like everyone else here is saying...is that extra 30 seconds that precious and important enough to warrant physically bumping another person? I just don't get this thread at all, is it serious? Sorry but that kind of behavior is so rude and self-centered. When I'm at a store (like Target for instance) I wait my turn. I don't ram a shopping cart up the person's butt in front of me if they're not moving fast enough. Truth be told, most people I've been behind are ususally moving at a regular pace anyway so why should I hurry them up? Is my time more precious? No. Goodness, I certainy wouldn't want to be in line in front of you at a store. I agree with a previous poster, what ever happened to the 'treat others as you would want to be treated' attitude? What if I was behind you OP, and decided that you're moving too slow so I rammed you with my cart even though you felt you were moving quickly? Would you appreciate that? I doubt it and would think it would be irritating. I wouldn't do that to you because there's such a thing called 'manners'. :sad2:

It is a shopping cart not a cow catcher. If there is a bump on purpose, then don't think people won't turn around and say something. I definately would.

Thought of this thread when I went food shopping this morning. I was unloading my cart onto the checkout counter, conveyor belt moving my items forward. The lady behind me is huffing and puffing. I guess I unload too slowly for her. She takes the divider thing, slaps it down and starts taking her food out. Great, except I STILL had food in the cart. So the conveyor belt moves and soon the counter is filled with her food. I told the cashier that I still had some items in my cart, the lady behind me probably didn't notice I had them. Lady says, "I saw them, just trying to speed you up." Then she laughs. All I could do was shake my head.:sad2: Can't believe the rudeness out there.

Yeah, this happens all the time. If I see it, I usually ask the second customer if they can wait a moment because first customer is still unloading. I'd say 50-50 second customer looks at me like I am an alien and continues unloading.

Sorry Op, but yes it was rude. How would you have liked it if someone behind you didn't think you were moving fast enough and bumped into you on purpose?

I also hate when people in line have no sense of personal space. I usually try to go through self-check and people will get right on top of you and then need to back up because they are blocking the area in which I need to make payment. Then they stand looking right over your shoulder, I usually look at them and ask them to excuse me, but I'm trying to pay.:confused3 I don't like someone watching me enter my pin# when I use my debit card:eek:

When I go to pay for groceries, I have my cart in the aisle, but stand at the head of the conveyor belt and unload from the side. So much easier to reach that way. Also, I can usually start as the belt is long enough so that the person in front has usually already moved up some. When I'm done, I push the cart along and get back in line and push it up to the bagger person. Works out better for me, and that way I can watch them ring up the groceries, easier to catch a pricing mistake (or a double ring) and no trips to customer service!

Ok got to admit I didn't read all the post but my pet peeve is when you start bagging your stuff and the person in back of you has like 4 iteams so the have stepped up to the cashier. The cashier then tells you they have your total and the person behind is stand right in front of them and then refuses to move. You can't get the swiper to swipe your debit card or even reach the cashier if you have a check or God forbid cash. I swear the next time I'm going to ask "Oh are you going to pay for mine?"

You should say that!!! I'm going to use that line also because it happens to me constantly.

I can't believe that the OP thinks its ok to bump someone with their cart. Thats just crazy. So if someone is not being fast enough, or if they are slowing me down, I should just bump them? Yep, not acceptable.

On the divider thingy--I do it to be nice. I do not feel I have an obligation to the shopper behind me and I certainly don't get my panties in a twist with the shopper in front of me. So if you don't do it--no worries, one bit.

Perhaps it's Florida, perhaps it's Publix--but I don't near witness have the stuff mentioned on this thread. Maybe it's that laid back island living and none of us really care.:lmao:

Do I have to worry about cart bumping in Virginia?

That's the moment I would have said....

"could you hold on a moment please, I forgot something".

I'd say excuse me to the rude woman behind you--then go the long way to customer service and request the manager.

I would explain to the manager that I noticed this awful thing that he might want to check out--and escort him back to the register. I would then explain that I noticed that the customer behind me and his employee seemed to not like the manner in which I unload my grocery cart. I would then explain that if their store doesn't like the speed at which their customers unload, then they might wish to hire extra help. I understand that the cashiers get "scored" on their scan speed, but I'm not at all interested in improving her score while compromising the service I received and being spoken to in such a disrespectful manner.

All this of course to annoy all those around me.

Geesh!

I've worked in cashiering, my scan speed wasn't lightening speed and it always irritated me that they wanted faster faster faster--but I'll be darned if I'm going to talk down to a customer and suggest that they are too slow.:sad2:

It ain't Supermarket Sweep for goodness sakes!

Two things that annoy me

1) Someone leaves their cart in a checkout line to hold their place in the checkout line, while they continue to do more shopping.

2) an express lane 5 customers deep, and the front customer initiates small talk with the cashier, meanwhile Im in a hurry and trying to get the F outta there.

Why would you involve the cashier. The poster didn't say anything about the cashier doing anything or trying to rush the poster. It sounded like it was just
the woman behind her. Really, you would go this this extreme over some woman who is in a rush? I would just ignore it, pay and get out of there.

Why would you involve the cashier. .

I thikn I misread it--I thought cashier said she was trying to speed them up. OOPS.

As a cashier, when I noticed a customer doing that--I'd shut off the belt so that it wouldn't advance.

If the cashier had said that--yes I would consider reporting her.

I'm pretty tolerant of grocery store life--BTDT, but I do have threshholds if an employee clearly is not demonstrating at least minimal customer service.

Any line to check out, it's annoying! I don't mind waiting my turn, but don't prolong it!

People on the cell phone while checking out, drives me insane! It slows everything down. Can't you do without the phone until you have checked out?

** I recall being bumped a time or two in the check out line. Now I'm wondering if it was a mistake, or a message. I gave the benefit of the doubt before, but now that I know some people do it on purpose, it sheds a new light on the matter.

Is there a full moon tonight? :confused3

Been sitting here reading threads for awhile now and the crankiness seems to be at an all time high..

Worst part is that I decided to pop on to the DIS for awhile tonight to escape the crankiness 3 of the 4 people here in the house seem to be suffering from today.. ( I think a 38 yr. old, a 37 yr. old, and an 11 yr. old "should" have taken a nap today..:rolleyes1)

Anyone have a link to an online source for "chill pills"? ;)

I can agree with the "handicap" portion of the original post, but the rest of the stuff? I can't honestly say that I find it worth getting all upset about.. If I have a slow poke in front of me, I just pick up a magazine and read it while I'm waiting.. :upsidedow (Or maybe the difference is that I make a point of never stepping foot in a store if I'm pressed for time.. To me that's just begging for trouble.. LOL..)

Carry on......................................:flower3:

Yes, the poor cashier was so caught up in doing her job, she didn't notice the lady behind me loading the counter up with her goods. When the woman behind me said she was trying to speed me up, the cashier looked mortified. She was probably just praying that a scene would not develop in her line.

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still going!

So many seem to think I purposely shoved the woman's cart into her. I did not do that. I would never take a cart by the handle and shove it into someone. I was unloading my groceries as best as I could with her cart in the way, and in doing so it bumped her slightly. She was not still unloading her groceries. I never said she was too slow. I am not a huffing and puffing type person who gets upset when someone in line ahead of me is slow. In fact I am just the opposite. People behind me may be huffing and puffing but I just laugh at them (inwardly, of course) like that is really going to speed things up. But to be completely finished unloading your groceries and then not bother to move your cart out of the way is rude to the person behind you.

And at first I had left a large gap between the woman's groceries when I started putting my own on the belt. I couldn't reach the plastic bar that you put between customer's items. But then the cashier pushed the button to move the belt up, so that is when her cart bumped her. I was trying to keep up with the moving belt. So really, it's all the cashier's fault! ;)

Carry on, folks! :)

By why care enough to come to vent about it to strangers? Just seems extreme and a little petty.

My daughters are cashiers and I am horrified what they come home and tell me. People get upset over the mildest things. It is ridiculous. My older daughter now works ins the courtesy booth and hears all the complaints. The managers laugh at some of the complaints and never even confront the cashiers, baggers, or who ever is the the culprit. DOes food shopping have to be so stressful?

I completely agree. I don't mid waiting my turn but when the customer and cashier strike up a conversation that elongates my standing in line time, it's very annoying to me... in any line, not just the express.

And for the phone thing, I don't think anyone could be anymore rude when they do that. To the people behind them AND the cashier.

The cell phones are probably the worst. I had a guy once on his phone, I tried to say hi and he shushed me, so I bagged all his groceries in plastic and when he had paid he glared at me and said he wanted paper, then just stood there and watched while I unpacked and re-packed all of his stuff.
