Irritable Bowel Syndrome and WDW---HELP!

On my first trip to Disney (before I knew I had IBS) we went to Cindy's at the castle breakfast...I thought the fat in the regular breakfast would be bad for me so I ordered the yogurt thing they offer. About 1/2 later me & my 2 year old DD were on a long line to ride Dumbo & just when we were going to go on I had to leave the line & run to the bathroom...there was a line for that too & I had to tell the ladies in front of me that I was pregnant & couldn't hold it anymore because I was so embarrassed. I was sick as a dog & didn't eat much the rest of the trip. I wouldn't dare eat on the plane either..plane restrooms are the last place for a bout with IBS! :guilty:

I am now taking Questran & I also take Immodium just for the vacation daily & that has worked well for me all the other trips I took..& boy I ate!

Good luck.

I have IBS and used to think certain foods triggered mine (and they well may), but over time I noticed that my episodes weren't triggered so much by the types of food I ate as by the amount of food I ate. In any case, I now take Citrucel over-the-counter pills three times a day and rarely have any problems. My gastroenterologist recommended any fiber supplement to help my ailment and I have found the Citrucel (or the like) pills to be the most palliative and user-friendly of the fiber supplements. The drinks are sort of grainy and hard to get down. I'd recommend trying this treatment since it's safe and non-prescription before you go and see if it works for you as it did for me.

I also have IBS, which I diagnosed myself before going to the dr. (gotta love the internet), and am also lactose intolerant, which stinks cuz I love cheese. Anyways, my DR. gave me the most wonderful pill ever... I think its called Levsin.... it works like Immodium, but this lil pill you put under your tongue and it dissolves in a couple seconds... and the best part is, you can take it before you even go potty! As soon as you feel that bubble gut, take one and it stops it! Its the best!!

Thank you to everyone that responded! So glad there are other people out there that know how I feel!

My symptoms are always the same but the triggers are so inconsistent. I can kind of guess what will be good/bad but I never get it exactly right. Eating less definitly helps and I always eat little meals rather than a few big meals. However I noticed recently my symptoms have changed, but so has my lifestyle (amount of stress, etc.). I hardly drink alcohol and eat spicy foods and I used to be on medicine, but don't REALLY need it. I use over the counter stuff and that usually works.

Once again thanks for the advice and responding! Hope everyone has a great trip and avoids any mishaps with the bathroom :teeth:

The best thing that happened to me was giving up my high stress research "position" for a "chemist/lab rat" position with another company that was virtually stress free. I wen't from constant pressure to produce results to riding down the river twice a week in my swim suit gathering water samples while being paid MORE MONEY! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Real no brainer for me. DH's was brought on during med school, it reappears when he works a lot of hours now and changes sleep habits. We've learned to sorta roll with the punches and not worry so much, it truly does help. For a while we were living on Immodium though.

Im with ya... I used to work for the Sheriffs Office on midnight shift (not as a cop, but office work). Loved the job, but clashed big time with management.. Im not one to go with the whole office politics BS. I was sick every day... Left that job, and have had only a couple flare ups in the 2 yrs Ive been gone.

Hi guys! I have it too and it sucks but I have found that drinking green tea has really helped, I use an extract and just mix it in water to drink away plus it is supposidly better for other things to. I still stick with my immodium but I would love to hear the other non-perscription things others use. I was also really worried about my WDW trip this winter :sad2: but hopefully I will try the fiber idea with my green tea and avoid all my milk products!

I was misdiagnosed with IBS. I was in college at the time and didn't have health insurance so I was never given the battery of tests, I was told it was IBS. For 10 years I believed all my "tummy" problems were IBS. They and I were wrong. I actually have gallbladder disease and thankfully I will be getting it removed in a week and a half. Do not self diagnose yourself with IBS, do not let a doctor tell you it's IBS without tests. I suffered needlessly for 10 years.

Sorry to get off topic, but I just wanted to add my two cents. :teeth:
