Irresponsible parenting

I don't believe what i have just witnessed. My next door neighbour has just driven down our road with her soon to be 3 year old son sitting on her lap helping to steer the car. Am i wrong in thinking he should be strapped in a car seat in the back seats. We live in a quiet cul-de-sac but surely that is not the point and this was bang out of order or is it me being a responsible parent!!

If someone were to rear-end them, the child would almost certainly be killed. I think people who do this think they are excellent drivers - they don't take into account that other people are on the roads too. I get a real bee in my bonnet about child restraints. I drove in front of one woman who had two children in the passenger seat and one climbing all over the back seats - not one was strapped in. They couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 years old. Some drivers still seem to think child restraints are optional - the irony was that the driver had her seatbelt on!

The other day I was driving on a busy road and came to stop at roadwork traffic lights, looked in the mirror and the car behind had a 4-5 yr old boy in the front passenger seat jumping up and down, and hanging out the window, I couldnt believe it! a police car went past going the other way and didnt see it

No you are not wrong about the child needing to be in a child seat, as a cul-de-sac is covered by the Road Traffic Act, after all it is a road and the public have access!

Definitely irresponsible and at the same time it is completely disturbing that many people are still ignorant of the dangers of not wearing a seat belt and are risking their children's lives like that. I totally don't understand it because as a Mam one of your jobs is to protect your child.

its shocking the things parents do. I once saw a toddler about 18months-2years locked in a car with a new born alone while the mum was in a shop where there was no way she could see the car, couldn't believe it!

When mine were babies/toddlers I used to pay extra for my petrol at a station that served you at your car so i didn't have to leave the car and go inside a building to pay. The lady, as she got to know me, even let me sit in the car and I used to just pass her the keys out of the window so she could unlock the petrol cap!

Don't even get me started on kids not having seat belts

It wasn't just popping in quickly to the shop though, she was gone for a good 10minutes doing her shopping, the toddler wasn't sat in his car seat, he was climbing all over the seats, I thought what if he decides to hit the baby or something!!

I bet if she had just bought a new TV she would have made sure that was strapped in! This kind of thing infuriates me as some parents have no consideration of the lives of their children.
I also pay at the pump in the petrol station so I don't have to leave my kids and only use petrol stations that allow me to do this.

Arghhh this really really gets on my nerves!!! why bother to even have a child if you are not going to protect them properly?!!
I see it ALL the time here, In Italy not many people wear seatbelts and almost no-one straps the kids in. I have whipped up my DH's family into shape they all wear seatbelts now and I have stressed that they are NEVER to take my children out in a car without a car seat. They still say to me that I pull the kids straps too tight, which i don't it's just they would have them loose enough for the kids to climb out of!!
I know it's a culture thing here but surely people are not THAT dumb to think a child is safe without any restraints???

my dd3 asked me the other day if she could drive the car with me of course the answer was no ......my doh and i went out the other day thinking the other had strapped her in when we hadnt we had only drove as far as our drive and she told us she needed her belt i felt terrible then thinking what if she hadnt let us know and we had drove off ..doesnt bear thinking about !

Then the little boy sits in the car and beeps the horn for about 10 minutes - it gets really old

Well fantastic parenting obviously runs in her family Her sister has done exactly the same thing tonight with her 4 year old
