. . .irregardless

I'm having a tough time deciding which is the most ridiculous..

Arguing over the official language of Swaziland or emailing a teacher because she used the word "irregardless".

Nope...The email is still tops, but Swaziland comes in a close second.

OK seriously? You are seriously arguing about the language of someone you've never met? What's the relevence anyway? Just to prove Bob wrong? Why? That's not even the main point of this thread. :sad2:

See....THAT is exactly what I was saying. People may think correcting others when it is not relevant to the subject at hand is "helpful" or maybe it makes them feel superior.

To me, it makes them look self-important and boorish. JMHO.

I'm sure it's been pointed out to him. My husband is in the nuclear energy and still has coworkers who say it wrong. They certainly know better.

I agree with you - sometimes people have bad speaking habits and those things slip out. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't know it's incorrect.

I'm not sure. I once saw Ari Fleischer interviewed by David Lettermen, after Fleischer had retired as Bush's press secretary and had written a book. Letterman asked him if he ever told the President if the way he pronounced nuclear was wrong. Fleischer said no, he had not, and maybe that was why they were having problems finding WMD in Iraq -- they were looking for nucular weapons, not nuclear ones. ha ha

Not only that, but just because a country has an official language does not mean it was the first language for all the residents. Many children in American schools only spoke Spanish for the first several years of their life. English is far from their first language as well.

Maybe we should hijack this thread and turn it into a "fun friday seinfeld" thread. At this point, I think the OP would thank us for the diversion!! :thumbsup2

For those of you at work today:

If I was at work I'd probably be taking a nap under my desk. It's Friday, after all.

"Jerry, look at my eyes."
"Hmmm... they're a little less beady today."
"Because I'm refreshed! I finally found a way to sleep in my office. Under the desk! I lie on my back, I tuck in the chair. I'm invisible!"
"Sounds like a real cool fort."

I'd say so. Except if he's been having "shrinkage" issues lately.

Curious. What does the "H" stand for in "JMHO"? Hypocritical?
