Could someone please help me? I have my beautiful designs and they are transferring to the paper well, but I practiced on an old shirt and it was a disaster!!! I know one mistake was that I used my ironing board. What kind of hard surface should I use? My kitchen countertop would be ruined.....a cookie sheet maybe? HELP!!!:confused3

OMG - not an ironing board. too much give!

I used a WOOD CUTTING BOARD. (Someone told me to try my coffee table with a pillowcase over it. Well, guess what, the varnish came RIGHT OFF the coffee table and transferred to the pillow case.) From that point on, I used a large cutting board.

I slid the cutting board INSIDE the shirt.

good luck.

might want to read this thread as well as there are lots of tips and pix as well!

20 steps

Thanks so much! One more question...how do you peel off the back of the transfer BEFORE ironing? I cannot get mine to peel off....

You don't peel it off! That's what you iron!

Once you iron the on the backing then you peel it off and it comes easy.

~ETA this only applies to light transfers!

I read that you need to put down parchment paper over the design before ironing. Now this is probably a very dumb question, but is parchment paper the same as waxed paper (like the kind you roll out pie dough on) , or is it like tissue paper?:confused3

You can buy parchment paper at the grocery store. It comes in a roll like waxed paper but it is different. It's slightly thicker and doesn't have the wax coating. So - no, don't use tissue paper or waxed paper.

Okay, thanks Shelly.:thumbsup2

Gee, I've bought tons of waxed paper at the grocery store through the years, but I've never seen parchment paper. Maybe because I wasn't looking for it?.:goodvibes )

On dark transfers, you pick at the corner and peel. I know several times I have picked and picked..but eventually it will peel off..good luck:)I always use my ironing board...

Does it make any difference that I am using a color LASER printer instead of inkjet? I also purchased, online, dark transfer paper for the laser printer. Thanks for all of your help!
