Iron Marks When Making Ironing Transfer?

(Sorry about the error in the title - Should read Iron Marks When Ironing Transfer!)

I am in the process of creating some shirts for our upcoming Disney trip. I am using Wilton Dark Transfers and the design printed wonderfully and adhered perfectly when ironed. The problem is the imprint of the iron is showing clearly on the image on the t-shirt. I can see the outline and the holes on the bottom of the iron.

I figured my first shirt would be a test run, but what can I do to avoid this on my future shirts? I am ironing on the cotton setting as directed and applying pressure. Am I perhaps ironing too hard?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Did you hold the iron down in one place? I didn't use Wilton, but with Avery if I didn't continue to move the iron around, the same thing would happen.

Thanks for the tip. I was thinking about this last night and wondered if the problem was leaving the iron in one place. The directions specifically say to hold the iron in one place for 20 seconds and then move to the next area being careful to lift the iron each time. That obviously didn't work!

I will try moving the iron around the transfer and see how that comes out. Hopefully others can learn from my mistake!

Moving the iron around the transfer made a world of difference. The t-shirts came out perfectly.

It's frustrating because the Wilton instructions specifically state to hold the iron in one place for 20 seconds before lifting the completely and moving to the next section. That definately did not work!

I had the same problem using the instructions that said to hold the iron in one place for 20 seconds. That shirt is unwearable and I'm having to make a new one tonight.
