Iran wants FIFA to remove the USMNT from the WC due to a Twitter post

At first I thought it was an individual doing this but I see it is the U.S. Soccer Federation as a whole. I am not sure how I feel about this. I think as an organization they should put out a statement but they changed the flag of another country. Leaving my personal feelings out of it, I think they may have overstepped. I do I agree with their support of human rights but I don't the US should be kicked out.

It was a stupid stunt and I am sure the US would be irate if another country's site posted an altered version of our flag.
The Iran news website has a burning American flag on its Twitter account. Not saying free speech can’t be applied here, only that I don’t think this circumstance by the USMNT Twitter should be seen as a violation of the FIFA charter.

Agree. The US Soccer team itself is not responsible for this.

@Buzz Rules What does the FIFA Charter say? I'm sure there is something about denigrating your opponent's flag. No matter how much we all may agree with the sentiment, if the charter says it should be a team suspension then I would agree with that. Now the fact FIFA is letting Iran play at all considering the behavior of it's government the last few months is whole other issue.

Changing a Twitter image wouldn't rise to anything FIFA cares about. They may issue a meaningless warning but nothing more. Had our Federation purposely used the wrong flag at a competition maybe they'd be fined but it takes a lot to get expelled from a competition. Usually it is something related to the game (fielding an ineligible player) or failure to separate a national governing body from undue influence and even then there is a pretty long process and multiple warnings.

Iran wants us out of the tournament? They simply need to win or draw tomorrow. Asking for a ban makes it look like they're scared to play us (they might be, but you don't let that show).
The press conference seemed to be a chance for them to get some propaganda against the USA.

Iran has a long history of burning USA flags and chanting death to America. Teaching that Americans are the devil and so forth. Not to mention the hostage situation. I really do not care what Iranians think about this.

Well hot darn Buzz. Something actually got me to care about the outcome of a soccer game. USA!!! USA!!! USA!!! Go Red White and Blue!!!

Don't tell me. I already know. CW4D cares about a soccer game? Now your life's work is complete.
