My dd10 would like an IPOD from Santa (she still believes :cool1: ). I went on pricegrabbers and saw ipods, ipods nano, and ipod shuffle, which one should I get her, uh I mean Santa  . I would like to get her the shuffle its so much less expensive. The nano is out of the question, the other is close to $200. Can I get away w/getting her the shuffle?

I'm computer illaterate. Will we need a special program to use the Ipod on the computer. Do you need a computer to use the IPod.

Sorry for all the silly questions, I'm use to American girl dolls and Bratz.
It getting harder now that she's getting older.

thanks

The ipods come with the software that you need to load on your computer.

If you are looking to be cost conscience, then you don't neccessarly need to get her an ipod, youcan get her an MP3 player, that does the same thing at a lower price. Do you have a price range you would like to be in? If so I can maybe point you in the right direction.

I got a free shuffle from judysbook and I think that would be fine. I really like mine. It comes with the software and I believe that you would have to have a computer to load songs onto it. Someone else posted that Aldi's has them on sale for $59.99 this week. This is a great price. If your Aldi's is sold out you could take the ad (from the Sunday paper) and price match it at WalMart.

do they have ipod shuffles at walmart? i am using windows 98, do I need to upgrade? I thought I read i needed windows 2000 or xp? AND do you have to use the apple website to download songs?
with the shuffle can you download cd's you already own? sorry for all the questions, but this new technology is killing me.

So far I have only downloaded from my own cd's. I am going to ask for itunes giftcards for Christmas and then I will use the site.

I also have an Ipod mini, my husband has the larger one that holds more. We love ours. You can even download digital photos if you memory stick is full. The shuffle would be good for her to start out. The only downfall is that you cannot control the music, it randomly shuffles everything.

Actually, you can play music in one set order as well. You can skip songs. But the Shuffle does not have a screen to select specific songs or albums like the other ipods. For a 10 year old I think that the Shuffle would be fine and it is more rugged than a mini.

I just bought my DD12 the iPod shuffle a couple of weeks ago and she loves it. I bought the 1GB since the 512mb only holds about 120 songs. I installed the software that came with it, downloaded 81 songs from her cd collection and it worked perfectly. I'll be buying her an iTunes giftcard for Christmas so she can download songs from the website.

I've seen iPods at our local Walmart but I found them on sale at Staples and got mine for $99 which is $30 less than the normal selling price for a 1GB (unfortunately we don't have an Aldi's in our area so no $59 bargains here!!).

If you're an educator you can buy from apple online and get a discount (click on the education link on the home page).

The one in the aldi's ad is different version from the one at Walmart....

My mom's Walmart took one look at the ad and wouldn't honor it......

Something about it being a newer version (plus)

As far as I know I-Pods are "NOT" compatable for Windows 98. That's why I'm buying another MP3 player. This one for my 12 yr old daughter and she liked the Tink one they are advertising at Best Buy ($49). It's fine for what she would use it for (I think it goes up to 4 hrs of music). Plus the chip clips (? Whatever they're called) are $20 each. I'm "just learning" also!

I bought my DD12 an IPod Mini for Christmas last year & it was the best gift I've gotten her..... She uses it constantly!

Although it was expensive to buy ($250 last year :earseek: ), it has actually saved me money in the long run. My DD no longer buys CDs (about $16/each) where she usually likes just 1 song. Now she just buys the songs she likes individually for $.99 :flower:

Does anyone know, how long aldis will be selling the shuffke for 59? The more important question, is there a aldi's in orlando. Since, I dont have one here. Thanks everyone :flower:

I don't see this on the Best Buy website. This would be perfect for DD11. She has fallen in love with Tinkerbell!

Mickeysashi, I would like to spend no more then $150., but now I believe I have to go w/MP3 player because we have windows98 (I think), my husband did say we need a better computer for her to have an IPOD. So now I need info on MP3 players? What are chips? Do I need a computer, I like the idea that it is less expensive then an IPOD. More monet for Disney!! So all ny fellow friends at DISBOARDS taljk to me about MP3 players.

I HOPE YOU ALL UNDERSTAND HOW I APPRECIATE ALL THIS INFO!!!

THANKS AGAIN!!!!

My ds wanted the ipod nano and after reading all the posts I decided to go to the apple store and talk to them. After talking to them and finding out not only do you pay $200 for the item, $50 for warranty, you would also have to spend another $30 for an adapter to charge. The only way to charge battery is through computer unless you buy this other adapter. A lot of people posted that they loved their mp3 so I decided to go to walmart and check them out. Was very fortunate that one of the people in that department was knowledgable and he showed me a siren mp3 players, 512 mb. was under $70. He told me that this was a one time thing with walmart. If they sold well they might consider keeping it stocked. I bought one for myself and one for ds. He loves it. runs on one aaa battery and if you wanted more memory you can use a sd memory thing that you use for digital cameras.

Agree 100% - Danny (my 10 y/o) got a green mini b-day - he oculdnt be more thrilled, Ive also saved money on CD's they want one song off of, AND now I want one.... :cool1:

I waiting for a Pink Mini to hit rock-bottom, and I am jumping on it!!! :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc

I *personally* dont feel the Shuffle is -as- worth it...cant find songs, at the swirl of a finger for instance...but, to each their own. :goodvibes

The Tinkerbell MP3 player is under Disney Toys (do a search) at Best Buy. It will say "available or coming soon".

I really have no opinion of MP3 players vs. I-Pods. But I have read about alot of I-Pod users wouldn't go back to an MP3 player for various reasons, easier to use, music load capability etc.

My son paid for his MP3 player and wasn't hard to learn how to use at all. He is very impatient-if there's an electronic out there he wants he finds a job to pay for it. At least he's motivated. But now I'm thinking of getting little sister one for Chistmas and I know I'll hear- "I had to buy mine"! :confused3 What to do?

Thanks--- I have an iPod mini but don't want to spend that much $ on DD when she may loose or break it.

My mall has an Apple store now and I was able to get an Ipod mini for $99. It didn't come with the software or the USB cord but both of my boys have an ipod so I just used theirs. It was a store demo and had no packaging but the clerk took the time to clean it up ( not that it really needed it). You have to ask a clerk about these deals and this was not a refurbished return. Just wanted to share my good deal.
