I am thinking about getting my teenage daughter a Ipod Touch for her birthday she wants the newest generation (the on with the camera) do you think 8g will be enough space for a 15 year old or does she need more? Is it really worth paying the money for a Ipod touch opposed to a nano?

Will she use it for movies? Both DD have their 16GB nanos full. When we upgrade it will be to at least 32GB.

I agree in getting the bst that you can. I bought the 32 gb for my own. I have the 16 but just use it for Music and some apps.
Love it by the way...
would you consider a refurb direct from manuf. They have good warranties, usually saves you $$. Whatever you purchase, use a cc that doubles the warranty ;)

We have purchased all our ipods over the years through the apple refurb site. Years ago we did shuffles, most recently we did I touch's for our girls. We have never had any issues with them and they have a full 1 year warranty if you do. In fact my oldest daughter purchased one from Target and that was the one we had issues with (apple fixed it though). Apple's customer service is awesome.
Great way to save some money.

if you have the iPod Touch you can surf the net and do email and have apps...that's the advantage. AFAIK, the Nano doesn't have that stuff.

As far as space goes, it all depends on what you have in terms of music and videoe. I had an 8gb iPhone and it felt a little cramped. I have a 16gb iPhone now and I have a decent amount of room to spare.

My Ds8 has 32g , we travel quite a bit and I wanted to have plenty of room for movies. I would think that a older child will have more pictures and do quite a bit more with it, so I would also buy a teenager the larger memory.

Nano and touch are two totally different creatures, if she wants the touch, she will most likely be very disappointed by Nano.

The Touch is completely worth it over the Nano for a teen. I would get as much space as you can reasonably afford. 8gb isn't a ton of space, but she can store her music and movies on the computer and add and delete them when she needs to. So if the 8gb is the one in your budget I would go with that.
If you have a little extra then I would go for more space obviously. Check the refurbs out on the Apple site as others have mentioned. Only the newest version of the Ipod Touch has Facetime though, so there may not be refurbs available.
Another thing I have to add. Apple has the best customer service I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They stand behind their product and if you have a legitimate issue they take care of it in my experience. DD's headphone jack came loose about a week before her warranty was up. We sent it in for a repair and they sent back a brand new one within about 2 weeks.

ETA.. I just checked the website. They do have the refurbished Touch you are looking for. The 8gb is 30 dollars off, the 32 is 40 dollars off. I have bought many refurbished products from them. They come in new boxes with all the accessories, and you wouldn't even know they were refurbs.

I could never be happy with a nano. Get the iPod touch. That's what I got and what I got my stepson. I even set both of ours up to have matching wallpaper. They are great because you can go online and lots of stuff. Plus take lots of pictures and they come out really really clear. We are always using the cameras on ours. Plus there's mostly enough space but I guess you could upgrade if you think she would need more. Oh and there's games too.

Both my kids have 8 GB and my iPhone is 8 GB. None of us have ever had any space issues. It isn't like we don't have a computer at home or need to store our entire dvd library on the phone. On the 8 GB, you can easily store hundreds of songs, pages and pages of applications, photos, and around 5-8 movies.

11yo grandson just maxed out his 8g itouch and he got it for Christmas!!!!

If you are going to go with the touch, get as much room as you can afford. She will never complain about having too much space but may max it out sooner than you think. My DD14 got a 32GB Zune for Christmas and she had it totally maxed out within the week.

I know I'm totally hijacking here, but I have a question about the touch. What's the picture quality like? My DD needs a new camera and mp3 player and I'm considering just getting her a touch instead of a camera but I need to know that the images will be decent quality compared to a half decent P&S camera. Thanks!!

In this article they are comparing the camera on the Touch to the Iphone4. Obviously the Iphone4 camera is far superior. But this will give you a good idea of what the shots on the Touch look like. It really depends on the picture quality your dd would like. It does the job, but is not the best. But maybe your dd would just like something simple for pics of friends. Hard to say.. but this article will give you an idea.

OP HERE. Thank you so much for all of your opinions I have decided to get my 15yr old a 32g and my 8 yr old a 8g. I really appreciate everyones help and you are right I need to get her what she wants that way no one is disappointed. Me especially when she gives me that (I didn't want this look) lol. Thanks again you were all very helpful.

My daughter had saved up when she was 9 and bought herself an itouch- she only bought an 8g and had it maxed out before a year. I would not buy the 8g for any age unless you are looking to buy another one pretty quick.

I don't understand this (honestly..not being snarky). My 12 yr old did fine with an 8gig. Why not just remove things? Anything can be stored on the computer until you need it again:confused3:confused3

Sellout WOOT has refurb 8gb Touch (Current Gen) up today for $169.99 + $5 shipping. Apple store has them for $199.99. I bought my old ipod (refurb) through Woot and it lasted a few years until I sold it to buy my Ipad 2.
