Ipod Touch or Kindle/Nook?

I'll admit it, I'm technologically challenged. I have a MP3 player that my husband got me for Christmas a couple years ago. It is not a real Ipod, but it has a radio and I downloaded some CD's that I had onto it.
I was thinking of getting an Ipod Touch, but now the Kindles and Nooks look appealing too. I like to read and could download books onto a Kindle or Nook and I understand that movies can be downloaded onto them too, right? I'd had to have to watch a movie on a screen the size of an Ipod Touch - way too small! Can Music be downloaded onto a Kindle or Nook? I wouldn't want to carry it around in my pocket or something, but if it can be plugged into my car somehow (can it?) so I could listen to my music while driving, or in the kitchen, etc. How is the sound quality on a Kindle or Nook? Is it meant primarily for ear plugs or does it project well?
So many factors in deciding what to get!

I would invest in a Nook Tablet rather than an iPod Touch. The Nook Tablet has Pandora, and you can get tons of apps, read books, check email, get online,etc. Basically, it is a tablet with the tablet price tag.
Right now, I have a Nook Color (just got it a month or so ago) and I've preordered the NT. I'm giving my daughter my like new NC for Christmas. I cannot speak highly enough about the NC, so I can't wait to try the NT!

I would invest in a Nook Tablet rather than an iPod Touch. The Nook Tablet has Pandora, and you can get tons of apps, read books, check email, get online,etc. Basically, it is a tablet with the tablet price tag.

You can do all the same stuff with the iPod touch. The Nook Tablet as far as I know is just WiFi based, the same as the touch. You can dl Pandora, Netflix, Hulu Plus etc from the iTunes store for free as well, just need to pay for the subsscriptions if needed.

I'm fairly certain that the Nook is a Android based tablet that B&N has customized. So you will most likely be limited to a subset of apps that they will sell you in their version of the Android app store. Ditto with the Amazon fire. A heavily customized version of Android. Both are meant to play up the features that make them money. Not selling you the tablet, but selling you books, videos, and audio. So the other table functionality may very well end up being an afterthought.

To the OP, it really comes down to what you want to do with it. The iPod touch is still meant to be an iPod. It just happens to do the other stuff as well. The Nook and Fire are for reading, and just happen to support audio and movies.
If you want music mostly, then get the iPod touch. There is a Kindle app, so you can buy things from the Kindle store and read them on the iPod, s well as a Nook app. However, I don't know if either the Fire or Nook will support an app for the other store so you may very well end up being tied into that one store front. As you mentioned watching movies and reading on the smaller screen isn't ideal. But when my DW and I have been waiting in line for movies and such, I can pull out my iPhone and we can watch a movie right then and there. Odds are, I wouldn't be carrying a Nook or Fire with me at all times like you could with an iPod. It's a more conscious carry due to the size. Slipping a Nook or Fire into your pocket to listen to on the bus, or while walking around the neighborhood just isn't going to work real well. And forget using a tablet to listen to music during a workout.
If you want reading or movies mostly, then by all means, consider the Nook or the Fire. The Nook has more memory, and has an expansion slot, so thats a definite plus. They will both play music and both have a headphone jack, but the Nook only has a mono speaker built in, while the Fire has stereo speakers. Either will work to listen to say at the table while you work on a crossword puzzle, but you won't be able to use the built in speakers to play music at the office holiday party. Otherwise they are fairly similar devices. It comes down to who you feel has better prices and a larger selection of what you want. Each will almost definitely end up having exclusives in one shape or another, be it a hit book or a popular magazine so that sway you one way or the other.

I do have to agree with what was said above, too. I have an iPhone, so the portability issue is not something I've dealt with the the Nook.

Great answer and I agree! I like portability personally so I would go with the iPod touch

you can also get the kindle app on your ipod touch and download books. At first I thought there is no way I would read a book on such a small screen but I use it all the time.
