Does anyone have knowledge of how I would go about replacing a cracked glass screen on an IPod Touch 3rd generation? The IPod still works great, charges great, etc - but it now has a crack across the top of it's screen. To my knowledge, the "digitizer" is still working fine. I'm not sure if the glass and digitizer needs to be replaced at the same time or not. My DH is handy when it comes to fixing things - but I have no idea where to get parts and instructions for this type of work. Thanks so much !

Im curious to see answers to this question. My dd14's Ipod touch (4th gen) has a cracked screen...actually cracked and splintered. I bought an otterbox defender to put on the Ipod as it covers the whole screen. I figured it would keep the screen from falling to pieces. I didnt know that you could even replace the glass screen.

I just replaced the screen on my dds ipod and it works great! I found a place called u break I fix. They gear towards iphones and such but, they also fix ipod touches. It cost me about $60. Which is much cheaper then a new one.

Just got my son's Ipad 2 screen fixed at www.iheartrepair.com The did the work within 24 hours of receiving the device and I had it back in hands in ony a few days. They also sell kits to do it yourself on their website. They do phones and ipods too.:thumbsup2

Well, now that you mention it, this IPod belongs to my DD14 also. She insists she has "no idea" what happened to it - I would bet my life that it did not spontaneously crack on it's own. I'll get it repaired ONCE as it still works great, however once it's repaired, it will be going into (another) case for protection. This time I will CRAZY GLUE to case on it if I have to.

We took my son's to the Apple store but made an appointment first. They gave him a refurbished one and charged us $99.00. Since then I've talked to others who buy kits on-line and fix it themselves.

We used powerbookmedic.com
For an IPAD repair...they were awesome
REcommended by a local apple retailer who said if we were to have the repair done with them it would cost 275!

You fill out a form and they send you a FEDEX box.

We paid 75 for a totally shattered IPAD Screen.
I have no doubt they could do an ipod touch as well.
:thumbsup2

If there is any chance you live in NH, I know a woman who does the repairs as a side job and does a great job. Same day turnaround for $40. I know several people who have used her, including myself. PM me if by chance you live in NH and I'd be glad to share her info. :goodvibes

Another fan of u break. :thumbsup2

How handy is the DH? Check out ifixit here -> http://www.ifixit.com/ They have guides for how to repair them, along with the parts to fix them. Prices may only save you a bit depending on the model.

:crazy2:

:rotfl: My DD15, came to me a few weeks ago and told me the screen on her 4th gen iPod was cracked. Of course she also had no idea how it happened!! Maybe there's a magical iPod screen cracking elf running around terrorizing teenagers iPods :rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2:

I'm not fixing hers though!! I bought her an otterbox to protect it and she refuses to use it so she can save up for it herself!!! Ugh! (She did call apple and they said they would send it off to be replaced for 99.00)

Seriously though, OP if its 3rd gen how's the battery life on it? They do eventually need to be replaced and I know my 3rd generations battery is not holding up nearly as long as it use to. My point being may not be worth it to repair if it may need a battery soon also. I know when I checked with apple the battery was not cheap at all!! Just something to consider.
