watcha think? still toying with the idea for dd(11) - either the nano or shuffle - it would be our 1st real experience with these

Though since she hasn't asked for one I'm thinking I should wait another year or two til she asks for one - ya know? But I thought I'd ask just in case - actually I want one & I could share hers when she's @ school!:rotfl:

I bought my DD an ipod nano refurb last year from the Apple Store and it is still going strong! It looked completely new ... no marks or scratches, but it was the more square model which was replaced with the skinnier model. I think it was $99 instead of $149.

We bought sis an iPod two years ago for Christmas that was a refurb.

It works great, and she is none the wiser!

Bought a refurb ipod 2 years ago and it still works great. :) It did come in a brown box that said refurbished. But it looked brand new and came with all paper work and new warranty.

We got DS a refurb Nano (the older square model which he prefers) for Christmas last year. Still runs great, no issues. It came in a new looking white apple box with a new, undamaged case.

i've bought 3 refurbs, they are great! the packaging has improved too, the brown boxes are gone.

We have bought 3 refurbs. Mine is the classic, and I have had it almost 3 years. DH, and DD both have the nano--the older square version (forget which generation), and they both have been great.

Frankly, I wouldn't buy any other way.

We got my DD a refurbished one because at the time she didn't want one of the newer ones. That was a couple years ago & she is still happy with her IPOD. It has worked for us.

I have no experience with a refurb, but I have heard only good things about them as you see in the posts above. I think a refurb is an excelllent choice for an 11 yr old first time ipod owner. I think she will love it:)

I've had refurbs since 2006 that are still working great. I'm getting my son a refurb Ipod Touch this year because they're worth it!

I bought a refurb Classic 3 years ago after reading a thread on here about them. I had it about a month and it stopped working. It was fully covered under the warranty. Apple had me send it back- on their dime- and either repaired it or sent me a new one. Haven't had any problems with it since. :thumbsup2

another owner of refurb'd ipods - we have 3...

I bought dd then 8 an ipod shuffle - but with talking (and their commercials) we determined she wouldnt like it (no control of when songs come up, no playlists available to switch to) DH LOVES IT!! (of course he has one group that he has ALL their albums so he prefers the shuffle mix of these tunes when he is mowing the lawn, etc)

so we bought her the nano - she still uses it, she has her itune library that she set up, she makes her own playlists - and she just found a bunch of Disney songs that she uploaded last night - I think its 3 or 4 years old!

Since those 2 refurbs were successful DH bought himself an Ipod that he also enjoys...

so I vote yes to the refurb - but go for the nano! not the shuffle

I have bought 4 refurbished iPods online from Apple directly and have NO problems at all. DD (23) wants a bigger one so I'm thinking of getting it for her and taking her old one since I still don't have one.

I got one for dd years ago that's still going strong. I'm thinking of getting ds11 a refurbished itouch, because that's all he wants this year.

We got a nano for oldest DS last year direct from Apple and it works great. I got another one for middle DS this year for Christmas. I bought early because I was told that santa was getting him a BLUE one, not silver, not black, BLUE :rotfl:

I was going to say the same thing. We bought a refurbished Shuffle years ago and it works great...it's just not as nice since you can't move around between songs.

We bought my son a new Nano last year. I can't remember why, but there was a reason we wanted the new version over the previous. If not for that, I would not have hesitated to buy refurbished. They look brand new.

I'm considering a refurbished Itouch for him. I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to pay the price, especially since he has the Nano, but he loves a lot of the apps on my iphone.

We got our DS a refurbed nano for his 13th birthday 1 1/2 years ago and even though it's been through the washer, it still runs great! We just had to let it dry out for like week before we tried it out again.

My mom bought our 3 kids refurbished Ipods 3 years this coming Christmas. They were the best presents they ever received! We still have them and we have had no problems with them. My son's Ipod even got washed and after a few days it started working again. My son has since bought a refurbished Ipod touch. So my DH inherited his Ipod nano.

:woohoo: glad to hear it, grandson 13 wants an Ipod for Christmas.

Something I learned on the dis :) if phones, Ipods etc get wet do not turn them on, if possible take the battery out and put the item in a baggie of uncooked white rice. The rice will absorb the moisture.
