I have two lines going across the screen towards the top of the screen of my iPod (one goes all the way across the screen and one goes about 3/4 of the way across), and I have no idea how to get rid of them. I have an iPod classic (30GB), and this is a problem that just developed today. How do I get rid of the lines?

Thanks! I didn't know there were message forums there. I just registered, and I feel like an idiot. How do I post a new message there?

Nevermind, I figured out how to post a question there. The response time seems to be slow there. Does anyone here know how to fix this problem?

Just wanted to bump this to page 1! I for the life of me can't figure this out. Help?

Have you tried restarting it? To do this you hold down the middle button and the up button at the same time until the screen turns dark and an apple appears. It will restart after that.

I had said down button, but I should have said the up button. You didn't drop it did you? It has not been wet either has it?

I tried restarting it, and that didn't work. I haven't dropped it recently (I dropped it months ago), and it hasn't been wet. I'm going to take it in to my local Apple store and see what they say.

If it were me, I would do one of two things.

If the unit was under warranty, I would contact Apple regarding a repair/replacement.

If the unit was out of warranty, I would open up teh case and check to make sure that a cacble wasn't coming loose.

It's not under warranty, so if I took it to an Apple store (which I tried doing this morning, only to find the store was closed for remodling) I'd have to pay out of pocket for repairs. How do I open the case of the iPod?

DD15 took hers to the apple store yesterday but was late for her appointment so she had to reschedule.

The clerk there told her she could probably fix it herself by reseting it. She said thats the 1st thing the techs would do anyway. I'm pretty sure she told DD to go to apple.com for instructions.

DD hasn't tried it yet so I don't know if it worked!

Did somebody sit on it or something to possible damage the screen? Does the unit itself still work despite the lines?

Given that the website clearly says that I might damage the iPod further by trying to take it apart, I'm not even going to attempt to open it. The iPod still works with the lines appearing on the screen, but I'm concerned that the lines are indicitive of a problem. Rather than my novice self trying to fix it, I'm hoping that either someone here or on the Apple discussion boards will have an easy fix or I'll be able to take it to Best Buy tomorrow and someone there will be able to help me out.

I've been thinking of buying an iPod Touch for a while now, and this might be my final push to buy one. The cost is the main holdup right now, so that's why I'm hoping for an easy (and cheap!) fix for my current iPod.

Usually (although I can't see your screen) I find that that indicates the screen is going out/broken. I would take it to Apple and see what they say.

I took it to Best Buy yesterday and they told me that the screen is pixilizing. I don't totally understand what that means, but I know enough to know that it means the screen is dying. So, I walked out of Best Buy with an iPod Touch yesterday. I'd been contemplating buying one for a while now, and this was the last push I needed. Woohoo!
