My DS wants a docking station for his iPod for Christmas and I have to admit I do not know much about these things. I had a couple of co-workers say that any of the docking stations under $100 are no good so I am looking for advise and guidance. The only thing my son has said is that it needs to be able to charge the iPod, be able to play music and tell the time. So any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

I will be watching this thread also because I just bought my first Ipod (and love it).

my dds both have Altec Lansing "In Motion"
They don't make the exact one that they have anymore.
But I think we paid around 100.00
They are good -but they do not give a "fill up the room" type sound with a pounding bass. You can hear the music fine though and they have held up.
You can use them battery or plug in.
Hope this helps

I have an ihome brand alarm clock/radio/docking station. It was around $39 at Kohl's and works great. It also plays ocean sounds when I'm going to sleep.

yes, the Bose ones are the best and are well over $100, but for a kid, I'd think you'd be fine with any of the basics.

You can definitely find a decent docking station for under $100. The one I have is actually a Sirius docking station. But, I was able to buy a separate adaptor to fit the iPod as well. It works great. Has a remote, clock, speakers, charges the iPod and allows me to download(if I connect the usb).

Unfortunately, the one I have has been discontinued. I paid about $50 for it. And another $10 for the iPod adaptor and remote.

We have a few I homes here & they work great. I got them at Best Buys for about $99.00

We have Ipod docking stations/alarm clocks. I have one in the living room and my husband has one with him. It has a big digital clock face, a remote control, and charges at the same time.

I found ours at walmart for about $40 or so. We didn't need anything special and I just wanted something that would play my ipod in the house and he needed the alarm clock.

I just ordered DS16 the Altec Lansing inmotion 600 off Amazon.com. I paid $94.00? with free shipping. It's $149.00 at Best Buy. I checked reviews at cnet.com and it got great reviews, only beaten by Bose as it's closest competitor.:)

I have this one, also an iHome, and the sound is more than adequate. Granted, I do have it up pretty loud to make sure it wakes me up, but I can actually feel the bass in my pillow when the alarm goes off. :goodvibes

Thanks. Keep the suggestions coming. The Altec Lansing inmotion 600 looks great, but it doesn't have a clock and that was one of DS's requirements.

Do you have a linens n things near you? I was in ours lastnight and all their ipod stuff including the ihome acessories were 30% off. They had docking stations with clocks around $50 and a few colors to choose from. You could also try the website if you are interested.

Just a warning...if you buy something at Linens n Things, you can't return it. Since it is a liquidation sale, there is a no return policy.

I have an iHome that works as an arlarm clock along with the docking station. I also have a portable DVD player that I love that plays my iPod on the larger screen and it also serves as a docking station too. You can try QVC.com, have several on there website!

I highly recommend this one

JBL OnStageII

We got it for DD a couple years ago and it puts out great sound. They may have a newer version of the On Stage out now, but this one still works great!

We have a couple made by Creative Labs. They sell them in Apple stores and elsewhere. They sound fine for the size, very lightweight, and can play about 2 hours on a single charge of it's battery.

Another great pick from what I am reading, they even have an updated version, the only problem again, is no clock. I wonder if what DS is looking for exists. I am still searching, but if I can't find one that meets all of his criteria I will have a look again at a couple of the units mentioned here.

Thanks.

Anyone else?

If you go to Kohls.com, click on 'electronics & game' then there's a link for ipod accessories on the left. There's some alarm clocks there that are also charging stations, and sometimes Kohls has some really good sales, especially if you have an additional coupon.

All docking stations will charge the IPOD.

I have the one made by Bose. It is unbelievable. It is far more than $100. If it is within your price range then look at it.

Since the data in the IPOD is compressed a cheap docking station will not give good sound.

No docking station will compare to listening to the music in the uncompressed form.
