iPod docking station questions

All docking stations will charge the IPOD.

I have the one made by Bose. It is unbelievable. It is far more than $100. If it is within your price range then look at it.

Since the data in the IPOD is compressed a cheap docking station will not give good sound.

No docking station will compare to listening to the music in the uncompressed form.

The Bose systems are sweet and sound fantastic, however at $250+ it isn't in the budget for a 12 year old, but thanks for the suggestion.

I have the Ihome by Apple and I got it @ BJ's for $69. I love it!

My DS wants a docking station for his iPod for Christmas and I have to admit I do not know much about these things. I had a couple of co-workers say that any of the docking stations under $100 are no good so I am looking for advise and guidance. The only thing my son has said is that it needs to be able to charge the iPod, be able to play music and tell the time. So any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

I think that point that your co-workers were trying to awkwardly make, was that with the USB and iPod interface being so inexpensive to manufacture, there is a lot of garbage out there. and that is absolutely true. For example, not to paint with a broad brush, but anything that you buy at Brookstone that is made for the iPod is garbage. But, as has been pointed out, there are some reasonable priced options.

I picked one up last Christmas at Target for $24, I know it's cheap but DS is only 10.

OP, do you have any TJ Maxx near you? I saw a bunch of Ihome at around $50-$80.

I got the Bose one for the living room. I love it and can't think of any downside about which to inform you. It's compact, can be played very loudly, has a remote.

I got a small cheapie one for the kitchen made by InMotion. It's good enough to have on while I'm cleaning up in there. I took it to Disney and lost the cord. Called them up to ask what kind of replacement to get and they sent me one free of charge. I like that company.

My only issue is moving the iPod about the house. I wish they'd come out with speakers that could synch to the iPod so all the songs were right in there and you didn't actually have to put the iPod ON the thing.
