I can finally upgrade in 1 month and I am so pyched that Verizon now has the iPhone! But here is my question...

Should I get the 16GB or the 32GB. Ideally I would like to use it as both my primary ipod for music and my phone with apps. I currently have about 7 GB of music on my existing iPod and will likely want to add more music. What do you all think? I am leaning toward the 32GB but am curious about what it can hold. Does anyone know the number of apps and number of songs a 16GB can hold? I doubt I will have a want or need for many videos or movies.

Also, people keep telling me to wait until July when the iPhone5 comes out? Any opinions on that? Any idea why it is worth waiting for since I have been waiting so long already for an iPhone?

TIA!

I don't know what all the iPhone5 will have that the iPhone4 doesn't, but there will *ALWAYS* be a better phone coming out soon. You'll never buy one if you wait for the latest & greatest. If it was mid-May, I might say wait. But you've got 3 months to go. I say buy the iPhone4 and ENJOY it now!

In general I believe in getting as much memory as you can afford. Even if you aren't pushing the limits right now, you'll have that phone for a couple of years and who knows how much stuff you will want to have on it then.

I am on my third idevice (soon to be 4th when I get my new iPad Friday) and I thought I would never need more than 16GB. Well, my iPhone 4 has been full almost since day 1! If you plan on keeping a lot of podcasts or movies then get a 32GB. I notice a lot more often now that I will get the digital copy with the DVDs that we purchase and they take up a ton of space! I think Up was 1.5GB. So I will be purchasing a new iPad with 32GB of storage. Can you tell I am excited? I am finally getting my Christmas / Birthday present 3 months late!

Two reasons to wait:

The first is simple economics really... You have 3 months left... iphone 4 will probably go down $100 (with contract) when 5 comes out. If you dont mind losing $33/month, you should be fine from a financial standpoint.

The second reason is the real kicker for me.... Apple will slowly cut back support for older devices. Look at the iphone 3GS... with the last iOS update there was a handful of features that the 3GS didnt get, and I figure it will only get worse for 3GS owners on Friday when the new iOS update comes out. If you really want to know where you will be, find someone with an old 3G and use their phone. Its a nightmare. I know people who bought a cheap 3G right before the 3GS came out, locked themselves into a 2 year contract and were stuck. Then, Apple started coming out with iOS updates that bogged down the 3G nearly to the point of being unusable.

In my opinion, you waited this long, 3 months wont kill you. I did it with the ipad. I wanted one around Christmas and my patience is about to pay off on Friday when I get the ipad2!!!

Word on the street is that Verizon may not get an iPhone 5 just yet. Another rumor is that Apple will push the iPhone 5 release to September to coincide with their annual iPod updates, which would give the iPhone 4 a little more time on Verizon and also bring all those product launches in line. Or they could just upset everyone on Verizon who just upgraded and release the iPhone 5 on both networks in July.

It's true that there will always be a newer, better phone around the corner, but the 4 is a pretty awesome device. The screen is amazing (to the point that the only way it could get better is if they made it bigger, which I doubt). They'll probably upgrade the cameras and processor in the next one but otherwise, I think most of the changes will be aesthetic.

I'm with OKW...if you're already spending ~$200 on a phone, you might as well spring for more memory. I didn't with my iPhone 3G and I wished I had. I got the 32gb iPhone 4 and I still have to be picky with what I keep on it.

Good luck!

I would also wait and get the largest size you can afford. I often need to pull music or apps on or off of my 16GB 3GS because it can't hold everything. Size builds up over time. I would love to have a 32GB and my next upgrade will be.

I got the iPhone 4 for Verizon in February and love it. I opted for the 16gb just because I listen to my iPod just not as much as Pandora and other online stations. I am not to far to my computer if I want to sync my phone and add or take away. There isn't any reason for me to walk around with 10,000 songs or 25 moves on my phone.

I say go for it and get it now. The memory of course is up to you. Just consider how you would use it the most.

Such good input - thanks all! I think my impatience will dictate that I get one in April but I have been talked into getting the 32GB.

And by the way, Scott, I call shenanigans with your post total!! I only wish you had chosen a number with some significance, like Pi or something :lmao:

DH and I each got Verizon iPhones in February and I think you should get it now. As sayhello mentioned, there will always be something new coming out. In addition, Verizon has already announced that they will be discontinuing the unlimited data option soon (this summer?). If you get the iPhone now with unlimited data, that feature will more than likely be grandfathered to you in the future. By the time the next iPhone is available on Verizon, it's pretty certain that unlimited data won't be an option. If you don't plan to use a lot of data, this might not be an issue for you though.

We both went with the 32gb option and during a recent vacation, were very happy that we did. We have movies, TV shows and tons of music and apps on them. I don't sync to my computer often and would rather have more content versus less on my iPhone.

Hope that helps! Good luck!
