My mom has offered to buy me an iphone and pay for the service plan. Although I would LOVE this.. she is not wealthy. (But her office pays for hers and she is crazy about it.) I can't seem to find info that I understand about monthly pricing. What is the cheapest we can do?

I don't talk much at all on my call, and don't really text, but would love the "anywhere" internet access.

Thanks!

Verizon and At&T are your only carriers. See if your moms company offers discounts ar either places. You can call both carriers by phone, give your moms company name and they will let you know. I would say that probably the cheapest monthly rate I think you could get is between $75.00-$90.00 a month. I could be wrong so double check. I just recently upgraded to the iPhone from a Droid and I think I liked my Droid a bit better, BUT I definately like iPhone apps better. Good luck...

It's your phone plan + a data plan. The data plan can be as low as $15 a month, depending on how much you need. With my company discount, I'm paying $59 a month, that's the $39 phone plan + $25 data plan - my discount (23%) + tax. That's with AT & T. The phone is pretty expensive, I paid $199 (no discounts). I've had it a couple months - I love it!

Data Plans
Data will allow you to access the internet, surf the Web, and check email.

Data 200MB 2GB 4GB and Mobile Hotspot**
Additional Data $15 per 200MB $10 per 1GB $10 per 1GB
Per Month $15 $25 $45

Messages Pay Per Use 1000 Unlimited
Additional Messages 20¢ per text
30¢ per multimedia 10¢ —
Per Month — $10 $20

So for $40 I can talk on the phone and for another $15 I can use the internet right? So technically I could do this for $55 a month? For another $10 I can text (but I can do that for free from a wifi spot right?) I understand the .20 per text but what is the .30 "multimedia" mean? What does sending an e-mail fall under?

Check with your employer to see if you get a discount on any carriers. I would also recommend not getting the lowest data plan. Once you have the iphone you will use it all the time, I promise! Love it! But going over on data is super expensive.

With AT&T at least- if you have the iphone that data is minimum $25 a month
(I tried for lower, couldn't with iphone)

We have family plan- also have a teen, so we have unlimited family txt- $30/mo that is in addition to the $25- but with a teen who last month sent/received 6500 txt we would go broke if we didn't have that!!
our bill is a little higher as DH and I both have iphone- only complaint-facebook sometimes goes wierd for DH- and he uses it alot when he is away (just saying about an app- not trying to start debate) but most of the time when there is an update it will let you know- DH doesn't update:confused: I have to do it or he "forgets"

love having an iphone- just make sure you check it out further- we were in the store and found out about the required data per month cost

I just got an I-Phone with AT&T in February and was offered the $15 data plan. I ended up taking the $25 plan so that I would not worry about going over and I got my company 23% discount on the $25 but could not get the discount on the $15.

Also she get a ATT I Phone . If she has google voice number she can text free. Yes you can text for free. I have LG Prime which is a pre-paid but os on a post paid account. I have the quick messaging unlimited data plan for 15 bucks.

I would not go "cheap" on the Data plan. You will use it more than you think. Also, I don't think that you can text free from a wi-fi hot spot-I would get the unlimited texting. Can your mom add you to her company plan and pay the difference? Some companies allow this so make sure she checks into it. Companies get bigger discounts for more phones so often they want you to have your family members on their plan. Also, your mom is with ATT, right? I know Verizon also gives discounts on accessories, I am assuming that ATT does as well.
