My current AT&T contract is up right around thanksgiving. I have a samsung w/ 3g that works OK for checking email and VERY minor web stuff. But an iphone is DEF on my christmas list. Fingers crossed that they'll do a sweet holiday promotion.

You could switch over to t-mobile. They both take sim cards. I find T-mobile has way better service than cingular.

I thought iPhone services were only available through the AT&T Network?

Yes, iPhone service is only through AT&T and I think they have 4 more years or being exclusive. But you can get an unlocked phone. But that voids the Apple warranty.

So I have a question. Everyone knows that when the iphone came out people were lined up everywhere and it seemed to be nearly impossible to get. What do you guys think, are the chances of that happening? I want an iphone, and my contract expires in august. I would love to get an iphone with the $200 deal, but 1) dont want to miss the deal while waiting to end my current 2 years, and 2) dont want to be stuck in the "sorry were all sold out" rut.

Any adivce/ideas?

I don't think you are gonna run into that problem, there was never really a shortage of the original iPhone from the get go.

You know you can buy the phone and just hang onto it. I bought my Iphone and had it sitting in the box for almost a month before I activated it. This way you have your new phone, but you can wait for your contract to run out. Also...if you are upgrading your phone and don't want to wait out your contract they usually just let you make a new contract and extend it for whatever time period with the new phone.

I agree-our two Apple Stores never sold out of them. Although you did see a lot of tecchies lined up for the phones when they first came out.

i've waited this long... a few more weeks won't kill me!

I'm just uber concerned about the pricing. If they are going for $650, I have to say forget it. That's too, too much for a phone.

But if the pricing structure is the same and the data rates are the same, count me in.

Does the anticipation compare to my trip countdown? Nooooooooo... could anything? a new phone is just an interim device to help offset the long wait for december. oh and a phone with internet access will be so helpful to use for trip planning while i'm at work!

ahhh.. well no wonder i was able to get a blackberry with gps, web, video, etc. etc. for 99.00 from Suncom. (with 2 yr indentured servitude.. which was fine, it only extended the current servitude by 1 year cause i was at the one year mark on the current contract)
Suncom is very good in our area. (Suncom/soon to be T-Mobile.. or is that the other way around??)

It should be announced during the Apple's World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) during the keynote on June 9. The keynote starts at 10 AM PDT. I'll be there. AppleInsider seems to have the most reliable rumors. They should also have live keynote coverage.

It looks pretty interesting, especially if your not an AT&T customer or a fan of their service. Personally, 50% of the allure with the Iphone for me is that it syncs directly with my Itunes. My kids have other types of phones that have the MP3 player, but they are a big pain in the butt IMO. I like the Instinct's GPS. Wonder if Apple could come up with a download where you could add something like that to your IPhone in the future without having to technically change phones, that would be nice. Of course then I'd need a way to mount my phone to the dashboard cause I like to look at the GPS as I'm driving like I do with my Garmin.

Does anyone else wonder with all the phones that have web capability about needing spyware and such in the near future? I honestly don't use my web browsing capabilities unless I'm bored or in a pinch, but with so many folks using the phone more like a computer, I wonder if we won't start to get phones with viruses and such.
