iPhone News...

I can see that I'll be passing off my Iphone to DS or DD and buying myself one of the new ones. Thankfully, DH is not into the latest tech toys, so I know he'll stick with his old phone.

Along with the Apple announcement AT&T said that they will be increasing their charges for the data plan. Expect to pay a minimum of $10.00 more per month to use the 3G iPhone.

I think that I'm going to stick with my 1st generation iPhone.

buttheads...after I spent $500 for mine...lol

Sadly, it is the price we pay for being on the bleeding edge...we paid $499 for DH's too. DH, when the first iPhone was announced, was so anxious to get it he would not even wait the 2 weeks for it to show up on my employee purchase plan, he ran out and paid full price for one!

Ugghhh the price i pay for being married to a techie!

You've got to be **** kidding me! Only $199! cool. I'll save $200 bucks... which they'll more than get with that extra $10 for service. Can't have everything. Awesome news!

When the iPhone first shipped I thought that Steve announced that all Apple employees would receive one on him. Or maybe it was just for the iPhone development team?

I guess I must have read wrong then because if its only $10 then thats nothing...I had read it was going to be $30 more a month. Still...the price of the convenience is worth it to me. I'm not into many toys, but I love my Iphone and couldn't live without it. I'd be devastated if I had to go back to my blackberry now. ::yes::

OK, now do I wait for my contract to be finished with Verizon Wireless and then get an IPhone? I work for Verizon. I get discounts on my wireless service now. And my phone battery is dying. I don't think I can make it last until the end of November. I have been thinking about getting a Blackberry. Can I use a Blackberry with a Mac? I wish the FCC would get off their collective derrieres and make the phone market open like it is in Europe. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

They did. That was MY phone. DH couldn't stand that I had a better gadget than him, and couldn't wait to get his own.

As long as you continue to work for Apple you'll always have a better gadget!

Well, I am now being lured to the dark side of AT&T. That new iPhone is beautiful! I might just have to leave Verizon for it.

I know you can take your number with you but what comes first, cancelling with your current provider or getting the new provider?

You should not try to cancel with your current provider before buying the new phone/contract. You could lose your number.

Call your current provider, make sure they say you are not under a 2 (or 1) year committment contract. They are known to extend it for somewhat rediculous reasons. Get the name/Id of the employee you talk to.

Then, buy the phone, tell them you want to port your number, they do it, you get it and it is done with.

While I've not done this to an AT&T plan, I have done it (to Verizon) and it was very simple.

Thanks for the quick answer!

I will have a year left on my contract so I will have to pay the cancellation fee (which I will save for) so how would I go about that? Still get the new phone from AT&T and then cancel with Verizon?

I would first ask Verizon how much you would have to pay. Without looking at the agreement, it really isn't possible to be sure (and the agreements are just about as incomprehensible as a credit card agreement). It has been a while since I looked at one. When my wife switched to Verizon, the prior wireless company demanded she pay the base monthy contract amount.

Edit: I should add, there are other options but these would typically involve not being able to port your phone number.

I just called and asked and I was told that once AT&T ports the number that will cancel my contract with them and they will assess the early termination fee, which might be less than the normal fee because of my kind of contract. So, I guess that's how I will do it. Thanks so much for your help!

I can't wait for my contract to end - so I can get my iPhone. I want it, I need it, I got to have it.

I'm with you! I've tried the Verizon version and it's just not the same, I have friends who have it and I'm so jealous. So I'll be there July 11th!

I watched a bit of the Steve's keynote speech earlier today, and I must say that the iPhone 3G and all of its new features really impressed me. I'm not 100% sure if our US Cellular contract ends this September or next September, but as soon as it does I will be at the Apple store signing up with AT&T for a black iPhone... :)
