Iphone lost or stolen today at Hollywood Studios

Mid morning this morning we were standing on Sunset Blvd. waiting for DS to complete an ice cream purchase and DD realized her iPhone 5c was gone. She remembered using it just 15 minutes prior after riding Tower of Terror and then thought she dropped it in her purse. Her purse zips shut in the middle BUT the ends remain open allowing her to drop a small object like her phone in quickly without unzipping. Unfortunately we now believe this also my have allowed someone to possibly lift her phone without her knowledge. At first we assumed she lost it. At guest relations we were in line behind another guest asking if any iPhones had been turned in to lost and found because theirs had just disappeared on Sunset Blvd! Guest relations said no phones have been turned in but they are confident that these lost phones will show up later today. We are not so sure...I am thinking that perhaps someone is taking advantage of the huge Spring Break crowds and collecting iPhones. Please watch your stuff! I hope I am wrong!
We did track it immediately but it had been turned off, but we are told CMs are instructed to turn a phone off if they find one immediately. That is kind of unfair with all of this MDE stuff you really need your phone!

If no iPhones have been turned in, keep on trying that Find my iPhone. Most likely someone stole it to sell it for money, so chances are they might turn it on again.

Why on earth would they turn off a phone?? What if someone tried to call it to claim it?

I would say she probably lost it. Be sure to check lost and found several times. Everything we have ever lost, from autograph books, to cameras, to cellphones have always been turned in. Good Luck.

That is extraordinarily cool, that everything you've lost has been turned in. Here's hoping that the OP has the same experience!!

Was the phone password protected? With the new iOS systems you have to know the person iCloud login and password to access the phone if it's password-protected. This is supposed to make the phones virtually useless if somebody stole them. I hope it shows up for you.

I will NEVER forget the day I lost my Blackberry in Animal Kingdom. It's 2010 (I still had a blackberry) and it's a day or two after Christmas. It was the trip from H3LL. I broke my foot before the trip and I was stuck in an EMV. My mom got very sick with a bad stomach bug and had to stay home on this day. My sister would get sick two days later and I would get sick two days after that..

I must have rested it on my lap and then started driving again. When we got to Expedition Everest I reached into my pocket to grab it and it was gone. I panicked. Back then, Blackberry had an app similar to find my phone (minus the GPS (!!) It worked by sending a designated email address an email and it would lock the phone and flash a message asking whomever found it to call a number. Genius me! I knew I had a weird feeling going into the trip, so I was very glad that I did this!!

One problem.... I had my house number programmed instead of my sister (or dad's or mom's) cell phone number. Anyway, we spent the day going back and forth trying to find it. We checked in at the Lost and Found and they didn't have it. I called it over and over again...

Finally someone picked up. It was hard to hear and they had a heavy accent. They hung up and I was unable to get in touch again. My heart was broken and it felt like my trip was ruined. My BBerry was getting old, and I knew the battery would only last for 12 hours or so on standby.

That night we went back to the hotel room. We had canceled our ADR as my mom was sick. We drove down that year, so we had our car. My dad paid for Pizza Hut (haven't had that in soooo long.) By now, it's around 10pm. My phone has been gone around 10 hours.

It felt like the movie Taken (not as serious, obviously.. but if I wanted to find it I had to within that timeframe..)

I try to call one last time ... someone picks up! Turns out a guy and his family found the phone. They tucked it away in their bag (which is normal - would you stop what you're doing if you found a phone?) He said he tried calling the number the message displayed (which was solidified when i got home and had 2 messages on my home answering machine from the man.)

Anyway... it turns out he lived in Celebration at a Time Share. He gave us the address and we picked it up..

Moral? Don't stress yet. Technology has come so far in 4 years and there IS a way to find it. Second, my story should show that there are good people in the world. Trust me - when someone initially picked up and hung up on me, I assumed the worst. Stay positive.

In your case I would hope for the best but definitely be prepared for the worst. My daughter lost her phone in Magic Kingdom in November and they have still yet to find it. We were almost 100% sure that it fell out of her bag at CRT when she pulled her autograph books and other things out. It was very dark in there and we were in the corner. We called lost and found twice a day while we were there and reported it to our resort, CRT, and Guest Services in the Magic Kingdom. By now I'm sure someone else has it. It wasn't so bad for us because her phone was getting old and we were planning on getting her an IPhone for Christmas anyway, though it would be nice to have the memory card for it. As far as the people in front of you having also lost an IPhone...I can only imagine how many phones get lost in Disney world on a daily basis. When we called lost & found for the third or fourth time I gave them a description of my daughters phone and her full name. The cm on the phone told me it had already been mailed back to my house. I tried to confirm that it was indeed my daughter's phone and our address. Turns out there was another girl with the same first and last name as my daughter who lost the exact same kind of phone 6 months prior the only way we knew it wasn't us was that she was from Texas. They probably have thousands of phones lost in the parks every year. Definitely don't give up and call the lost and found often. I hope your able to find it!

I hope it turns up. I wouldn't count on it. DS, age 5, left his hat under the seat on Soarin. We realized it before we fully exited and had the CM call back. Yeah, it was gone. Someone took a youth sized Mario hat. We watched people coming out as well. Didn't see it. 100% sure he had it on going in and he knows he put it there. Called and called and it was never recovered.

If it's in a network reception black spot the phone won't ring either and will go straight to voicemail, if she has that service activated. It may not have been turned off. We have also had everything but one item that we lost, found again. What we have learned is that it can take up to 24 hours for them to have it put on the system so try again when you leave the park and keep calling the lost and found number. I hope you find it. If you do, please let us know.

Last trip I went into the ladies room and someone had left a phone sitting on the back of the toilet. Why anyone would take it out of their pocket and leave it there is beyond me but we did turn it into the first cast member we could find.

No luck yet! We put the phone in "lost phone mode" from Find my iPhone so it should lock with a pass code and send me a text message as soon as someone turns it on. We will see what happens.

A couple years ago my daughter lost her ipod in North Carolina on a family visit... we assumed the worst and basically forgot about it... the find my ipod thing did not work, ect.. put on our account it was lost/stolen... ect... fast forward 3 months later, we got a random call from the Apple store in NC (we live in VA) telling us someone came in and tried to fix the locked password on the ipod.... the apple store confiscated the ipod (after the person could not identify themselves as us).. and lo and behold.. they overnighted the ipod back to us... 3 months after we lost it....

...so all hope is not lost for you! Good luck!

We too were so fortunate to get everything back that we lost. A Camera twice, a camera memory chip (that was a miracle that we got that back), a hat and my son's wallet. With the wallet we went to where he lost it and someone had turned it in but it hadn't gone to Guest Services yet. The other items made it to Guest Services but not very quickly. One camera took about 8 hours. They have to log everything. I pray you get it back just for the pictures.

I left a hat on Thunder Mountain, it was gone with in minutes never to be seen again. would have been a bit risky wearing it, not many people have a hat with the Cypriot flag on it. Conversley years ago I left a valuable camera on the Sky Ride in Sea World and it was handed in immediately.

My iphone will only turn off if you know the passcode. You can't turn it off from the lock screen.

Good luck. I still get a sick feeling when I think of my iPhone incident last April. I was assured that the new iPhone I dropped on Buzz would be turned in by cast members when the ride closed. I could track it on my iPad and it never moved until park closing when it was turned off. I was assured that this was normal because they want to preserve battery. It did not show up at MK or at Lost and Found. Finally someone turned it on in downtown Orlando and I have not seen it since.
The new software on iPhones does make them virtually useless when stolen (as someone else on this thread has already posted). When my iPhone was stolen that was not the case. I tried to change every password on all my accounts but hackers did get access to a couple of accounts I missed. The whole affair was not fun and buying a new unsubsidized iPhone set me back $750. I hope that your case has a very happy ending. I totally sympathize with the worry.
P.S. I must be really unlucky because I also lost a new camera at AK on Safari a few years back. I left it in the seat pocket (the pockets have since been removed). I realized it immediately after exiting but got no help at the ride. It was never turned in. Fortunately for your sake it sounds like I am a rare unlucky person where lost items are concerned!

iCaughtU is also very handy, but the phone needs to be jailbroken (not illegal and not particularly difficult).

It takes a picture of whoever is trying to use your phone if the wrong passcode is entered and emails the picture to you without notifying the thief.

You can then take the picture to Guest Relations, and if it's a CM, someone should be able to identify them. If not, at least you can watch out for the thief around the parks.

Hope someone finds it and turns it in. Last October at Ft. Wilderness I found a cell phone under a bench at a bus stop. Went and turned it in at the main check in office. Five minutes later we noticed a bus drivier get off his bus and go looking around the same bus stop. We asked if he was looking for a phone and he said yes. Told him where it was and he thanked us. We went up front by the office and sure enough we saw a young woman with a baby carriage get off the bus and go in the office. There was a picture of a young woman and baby as the wallpaper on the phone so I was sure it was her. When she came out we asked her if she had lost her phone and just got it back. She said yes and could not thank us enough. I just wanted to make sure that she got it.

Hopefully someone will turn it in - keep checking.

Maybe it's just me, but if I found someone's phone I wouldn't put it in my bag....nor would I take it home with me. I'd hand it over to the first CM I saw and let them follow their procedure for missing items. Taking it home makes no sense to me unless you intended to keep it. But I'm glad you were lucky enough to get it back!
