I recently purchased an iPhone. Can anyone recommend a good GPS app to purchase? If not a good app then how about a recommendation for an inexpensive GPS unit that works great. I have not chanced "jailbreaking" my phone yet so don't have access to those apps.

We are going in 4 weeks and really want a good, reliable, talking GPS program to use. I loved Sprint Navigation I had with my Blackberry ...

What do you want to do with the app? Find your way driving or walking? Find your way around WDW or out on the highway at home? Let us know a bit more on what you want to get out of your GPS function and when you would be using it.

I'd be interested in what's recommended too. I used the iPhone map function and was woefully disappointed.

We have a Garmin Nuvi that is fab...the large screen, directions scroll as you drive, and mileage countdown make it a breeze to use. I'd love to carry/pack one less thing if I could find a comparable iPhone app. Our Nuvi is used everywhere - locally, road trips, travelling across the country.

cheers,
:flower3:

There are two major players in the market, on the iPhone now. Navigon and Tomtom. I had Tomtom, and returned it for Navigon. (Did this through Apple support).

If you do a search, you will find reviews on both of these. I MUCH prefer Navigon, as it has text to speech for street names, a cleaner interface, and frankly, is more accurate for me. I also like the way the company supports the product with a number of updates since it's release, as well as informing the user base on what updates are coming. Tomtom is VERY secretive about there stuff, and has yet to release anything other than a basic update to their iPhone product.

Other reasons I favor Navigon are "in app" iPod controls, the ability to create and save future routes, auto switching between night and day view modes, lane assist and well, I could go on and on. IMHO, at this point in time, Navigon is THE leader in iPhone GPS navigation apps.

Check the reviews on the web, and the app store, and I think you will find it is a favorite of many.

Thank you Steve for your very helpful advice. Answered all of the questions I had.

To the previous responder .. sorry .. didn't realize this was a place for discussion other than Disney. I assumed everybody posting here talks Disney and upcoming trips. I was specifically asking for GPS information regarding our upcoming trip to Disney and only needed it for driving purposes.
