So we are almost at the end of our Verizon contract and need to decide on a new plan. My daughters phone is completely dead and we just re-activated an old phone to get her through till the end of our contract.

She would like the IPhone 6S as her next phone and we have been pricing out options. For our area Verizon has the best coverage....had Sprint and Virgin Mobile in the past and there is no coverage here.

My question is I am wondering if anyone has purchased an unlocked IPhone from Apple and then used it on Verizon prepaid? We're there any problems with it?

I would buy the phone outright (yes I know new one comes out next month and 6S will drop in price) from Apple with Apple Care. Because it is unlocked I could the go to another carrier in the future.

Has anyone done this? This seems to be the best way $$$ wise for what we need. I am trying to cut the monthly bill way down and do not want to spread out the payments.

Thanks!!

you shouldnt have any problems activating an iPhone from Apple with Verizon Wireless prepaid.

for a 6s, you are looking for a big lumpsum of money($649+ tax dependin on state+ applecare). monthly plans have no interest to pay, it might be a good option to do if you do have debt but i know what u mean by those monthly payments...

In my area, Straight Talk allows you to use an unlocked iPhone, and it runs on the Verizon network. $45/mo for unlimited talk and text and 5 gb data, with no contract.

Yep. I use ST. I paid $450 for a year of service and bought a six month old iPhone 6 off eBay for about 60% of what a new one would cost. In three years or so I'll upgrade to another used one.

Thanks! I do know about Straight Talk. I think I will buy the phone from Apple and try Verizon prepaid first unless I can clarify that StraightTalk uses Verizon towers. Which I have not been able to do. Around here Verizon has the best service. ATT is ok and Sprint has hardly any coverage. Since Verizon has been great for the last two years I figure they might be the best to stick with.

The 3gb of data will be more than enough...we have wifi at home and kids have wifi at school.

I wish Straight Talk was more clear about which towers they use for each phone because it does make a difference.

One of the things I'm looking to find out is if the group messaging and picture messaging features will definitely still work on Verizons prepaid plan.

I use an older verizon branded iphones on pageplus cellular (up to a 5s) I pay $30 per month with about a million texts, 1200 minutes of talk, and 500gb data(? or is ti 5?) It works fine for us, even teen ds uses it on a 4s, and keeps data shut off when not needed(he's a pokemon Go player too) and it's the best coverage in our area for the price(runs on verizon towers) unsure about the 6 on pageplus but you can check over at howardforums for detailed info. I get it about verizon service, nothing else works as well in our area either! For my 4g (5s) phone I had to purchase a $10 Sim card- the service works just like ordinary service, we gets all pics and texts and imessages to different devices. (I have no issues going into settings on the iphone and turning off data suckers when I don't need them running)

^ You can use an iphone 6 on Page Plus, my dd is using a 6 Plus on it.

OP, I don't see why the group messaging wouldn't work on VZ pre-paid. I know it works on Page Plus.

well, once you get an iPhone, group messages would be on iMessage instead of carrier's sms. But if someone else in the group is on android, then it might not work...

also, i didnt know this but theres also another VZ mvmo called TotalWireless... they probably have a better deal. $35, unlimited talk/text, 5GB of data.

I have done messages with a group of android/iphone users, it all works fine likewise pics to android phones is fine too

New iphone will be 4G LTE, they are unlocked from Apple. All it matters is signal they are formatted for. Verizon uses CDMA, international or factory unlocked phone can be used on most bandwidth in the world. I have used Verizon phone on ATT network without unlocking or anything.

Thanks everyone! Bought the phone yesterday and they set it up on our Verizon acct which we will have till the end of September. Phone is unlocked so can take it anywhere.

We did the Apple upgrade program where you pay for 24 months but can upgrade each year, includes Apple Care ...two replacements for $99 each if you break it, etc., and she will most likely want or need a replacement before two years is up. She is also a teenager so just loves the latest and greatest. Was going to just pay upfront but this seemed to be good plan since they will just charge my credit card each month for the payment and she can pay half ...like $15 a month to have some skin in the game. If she has to lay out some of her own $ I know she will take very good care of it.

I will probably just do tracfone for $15 a month with my Galaxy phone when Verizon contract ends. I have wifi at home and work so data isn't that big a deal.
