Hello,

What are the best IPhone apps that you use on your phone while in Disneyland? I want to go ahead and load them and make sure that I can use well. Going in May and trying to make this the best trip ever!! This is for my daughter for her high school graduation and we were taking a friend along and last week her friend cancelled. She is very hurt but still wants to go. I know that going with Mom may not be the most fun as she was so wanting to experience this with her best friend. So, thinking of the Walk in Walts Footsteps and also Goofy's Kitchen.

We are also thinking of renting a car for one day and doing the PC highway and spending some time at the beach. What would be a nice beach to visit where we could enjoy the day? Will it be too difficult to get there? Any other ideas for the day. We will do a 4 day Park Hopper and then a Beach Day.

Thank you Diser's for all of your help and info.

We used the Disneyland app when we were in the parks a few weeks back - a tip I found worked well is to, even when fully charged, put your phone on 'low battery mode' (where the battery shows as yellow rather than green) as the app does suck up battery I found. Using this function I was able to use the app as much as I wanted and still had plenty of battery life at the end of the day. It includes ride and fastpass info, dining locations and menus, character locations and times and bathroom locations (although we pretty much know all of those by now after so many trips and not being young anymore).

We have gone to Laguna, Huntington, Newport, Santa Monica and Venice beach over our 4 trips. Santa Monica and Venice are both near LA and are a further drive and honestly, we preferred the other beaches a lot more. Newport is pretty much straight south from Anaheim, with Huntington being a bit north and Laguna further south on the Pacific Coast Highway. If you are making a day of it, then I'd head to Huntington for a visit and then maybe drive south to Laguna and make a few stops even, as it's great to spend time at the beach. They are all quite similar, pier, shops, normally ample parking, locals walking around all tanned and seemingly far more relaxed than I find normal...great stuff!

We did our beach day in between our park days, I'd suggest the same - 2 park days, beach, then 2 park days - that way you get a change in the middle of your trip and a bit of a break.

Have fun!

So Huntington and Laguna would be our best bet? Thank you for the suggestion of doing it inbetween days. I had thought of that too. We will want the break. Thank you again for answering and the good info!!!

I use the Disneyland app exclusively, and really like it.

I like Sherilaine's recommendation of putting a beach day in between. Huntington and Newport are the closest beaches. You can rent boogie boards, bikes, etc., and both have a nice trail to ride your bikes. Those are the best bets near Disneyland, and then you can go south to Laguna Beach - there is a cafe there - Greeters Corner, I think, that overlooks the ocean. There is also a restaurant - Ruby's at the end of Huntington Beach Pier. (I think the Newport Beach pier restaurant is closed)

I also recommend downloading Waze on your phone, put the addresses of the places you'd like to go to in there, and that should optimize driving time (in preferences choose faster route over most direct route). It's great at gauging time and distance to get to these places.

I've also done a few segments on our podcast talking about the beaches: Santa Monica/Venice, other west beaches and the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Long Beach, Seal Beach/Huntington Beach, and Newport Beach/Laguna Beach. Links to our shows are in the sticky threads at the top of the board. :)

I have MouseWait, MouseAddict, and the official DL app. I find I use MouseWait more than MouseAddict. I've always found MW's wait times to be pretty accurate.

I haven't had a chance to use the official app. I'll try it next month.

I don't have a problem with battery power, but I do shut down the app rather than having it running in the background.

We like and use the official DLR app. Easy, convenient, and free. Also, load the Starbucks app so that you can pay using the app (all park locations) and pre-order your drinks at the DtD location.

I like the official app and Touring Plans Lines app though it only works to it's fullest potential with a TP subscription. I know a lot of people on these boards aren't the biggest TP fans but I love them and the elimination of the "what next" question... Too bad I need to get a US SIM card to use it at DL without running up a MASSIVE phone bill.

Pre-ordering available only at the DTD location? Bummer.

Yes, pre-ordering and reward redemption are available only at the DtD location. But you can pay with the app and earn stars at all DLR locations.
