Iphone and battery life

I don't feel like my battery life on my iPhone is very good. I think I got much more time with my itouch. How many hours can I expect?

If you have you iphone in 3g mode it sucks the battery quick. My 2g lasted alot longer. I try not to use 3g as much as possible. Battery last longer. I downloaded battery magic for free and it gives you a good idea about your usage.

I've been considering switching from the BlackBerry to the iPhone but had not considered the battery issues. When my BlackBerry Tour battery gets week I just switch batteries and keep on using it. That isn't an option with the iPhone. How long does it take to recharge? AC/Car Charger/USB???

If you change your screens brightness by down to about 50% (you really cant notice) you will get a good deal more battery life (or at least that works for me).

I doesn't seem to take that long to charge. It was at 20% and in 40 minutes was almost charged full with the car charger. I also purchased a car charger that comes with a battery pack to use if I am out and about and it becomes low. At home I would say within an hour it is done being charged. I don't really time it, so I am only guessing.

Keep in mind that whatever smartphone you pick that has similar capabilities to the iPhone will likely have challenges. With large screen, high function smartphones, you will need to charge them more often than traditional voice only devices.

As others have mentioned, keeping a car charger handy and an AC adapter is a good idea with the iPhone (or similar deivce).

Blackberry is an alternative. In general, they are the best smartphone platform for battery performance.

I've had my 3G for a year and several months and am happy with the battery power. Would I like it to be better, sure. I would like to be able to use "push" for e-mail without having to charge the battery by mid-afternoon. But then, I don't really need to get e-mail instantaneously - within 15 minutes is almost always good enough. It is a phone after all.

I am a fairly heavy user, even more so when I am out of the office and don't have other access to e-mail. If I use it a lot then I will usually have to use the car charger. I charge mine every night - it doesn't always need it but you never know when the next day might not have charging opportunities.

It all depends on what you are doing...if all you use are apps, e-mail, etc. your battery will drain in about four hours. If you are just listening to the iPod it can last over 10 hours in my experience. If you are traveling around and your phone is having to search for the network, that will also eat it up. On average, with just "normal" use it lasts six hours...so that would include having a few conversations on the phone, checking e-mail, weather, and listening to the iPod. I love my iPhone 3G and make sure that the battery is just about dead before I charge it. That seems to keep up the battery life.

I found the going to Settings / Network and turning Data Roaming off extended my battery.

I have heavily used my phone for an entire day and not had the battery die.

We also found a case made by InCase that acts as a battery back up. The case charges your phone when your battery dies.

It wasnt cheap. I think it was $90. I didnt care for it. It made the phone heavy.

John likes it and uses it alot.

My car charger is from Griffin and includes the PowerJolt Reserve (i.e. rechargeable battery). I can't say how good it is yet because I have yet to try it out. My plan is to see how it works sometime this week.

Thanks for all the tips! I really need to look at my settings to determine which ones I really need and which ones I can put on off to help the battery time.

My 3GS, which I leave with standard settings (bluetooth on, screen brightness at...whatever the original setting there is, wifi on, and data roaming on, lasts 8-10 hours without recharging it. I speak on the phone for 3 or more hours each day, almost exclusively on a bluetooth. My old iPhone (1st generation) would last 6-8 hours for similar usage. I never had a 3G, but I don't think the 3GS has a better battery life, does it?

I use my phone pretty heavily and I have had decent luck with battery life. I've been able to put a full charge on it and use it all day at the parks (that's a good 12 hours). I will pack my charge cord, just in case .

But, on 12 hour days (like park touring) I will be careful how I use the phone. Turn of push and wifi, avoid gps, avoid long calls.

There are actually a plethora of outlets a wdw to juice up at. And it doesn't take long to throw a quick charge on it. I think a full charge takes 5 hours. But a 20 minute emergency charge will bring it 3/4 up.

But touches get tons better battery life than iPhones. My wifes touch will last for days!

I use the car charger also but on a long journey in the train; especially those that I do not get to a mains charger, I have lost battery before coming home.

I have been looking at some of the cases but was also concerned that it would make the phone heavy

Meant to add on those trips I use data heavily with web browsing, email and other apps

So far my iPhone battery seems to last all day. I haven't changed any of the original settings from when I picked up the phone. I don't talk on my phone that much, maybe 45 minutes a day. I make sure to plug in the phone every night and I have not had a need for a car charger yet.

I have also seen extra battery chargers in that magazine you get on the airplane.
