Ask Verizon to price out your bill if you get an iphone 6 under Verizon Edge. It's confusing when they explain it to you because they try to be cute and say things like "edge up" instead of upgrade early to get a new phone. But anyway, we just upgraded a phone on my family plan to an iphone 6 and were prepared to pay the $200. Instead, we ended up doing the no-contract Edge plan. We will pay the entire $650 for the phone over 2 years, which works out to $27/month, but they give you a $25 line credit for the no-contract line, which meant the monthly cost only went up by about $2.
Caveats: You have to pay the sales tax on the full price of the phone upfront. In my state, it's 7%, so that added $45. Add that to the approximately $48 over 2 years for the bill increase, and we are ultimately paying a bit under $100 for the phone. Not bad. And the upside is they said the $25 line credit stays after the phone is paid off since it's still no-contract, so if we choose not to get a new phone right away once it's paid off, we'll be saving a lot.
