Our contract with Verizon is up in a few weeks and we have iphone 4s'. We would prefer the iphone 6 but don't want to pay $200/phone, so if we stay with Verizon we'd probably get the 5s for $100/phone. If we switch carriers to AT&T will they offer a better deal for the iphone 6?

We aren't interested in other carriers because the coverage isn't good with anyone else.

No. The latest iPhone models will be the same price from every carrier if you are looking to pay the subsidized rate that goes with a 2-year contract. Apple sets these prices, not the carriers.

Isn't it generally cheaper go with a no contract plan? Sure you'll have to pay $650 for the phone upfront but if saving money is your goal....

Target has 10% off with a 2-year contract this week (through Cartwheel). I think Costco generally has them cheaper. I have an IPhone 4. I'm dying to upgrade to a 6, but I am with ST so it's completely on me. And I wouldn't get a 16 gb IPhone 6 so I'm looking at paying $750. But IMO the features on the 6 are worth paying an extra $100 for.

Keep an eye on deals at target. I just got the 6 for $169 plus I got a $30 gift card. They work with all the major carriers

The Target ad this week said $100 giftcard with Next AT&T (or equivalent payment plans with Verizon and I think Sprint) or 10% off with 2 yr contract. Do all Targets have phones? Does anyone know the details with this? Is it new customers or if I am already AT&T can I still get? I have always just got my phone from AT&T store. I don't think my local Target has Iphones, but I have never paid attention.

Anyone can get it if you are eligible for an upgrade. The amount of your down payment for the phone on AT&T Next or Verizon Edge, etc. depends on a credit check from your carrier.

We have bought Iphones from Target (2 year contract). It works the same as if you were to buy directly from Verizon. You will get the 10% discount this week plus the extra 5% from your Red Card if you have one. Check the Best Buy ad too-I know they had a deal this week but I can't remember what it was and I threw my ad out (I "think" you might get a $50 gift card plus BB rewards).

I just bought an iphone 6 64gb from Sam's Club last week. It was the cheapest price that I could find-$227.99 with the 2 year contract (not sure what 16gb price was).

We found with AT&T it's definitely cheaper to go with a no contract phone. I am paying $750 for my iPhone 6 64g over 24 months instead of the $299 contract price, but my monthly charge is $15 instead of $40, and there was no activation charge. We bought our newest phones directly from AT&T this time because of the $200 gift cards on the old 4's, but I don't think that deal is going on anymore.

When we were still paying contract pricing, I also found the best deals at Sam's club. I purchased DS's 5s for $139 when they had only been out a few months. (Bought it on Christmas Eve 2013)

Ask Verizon to price out your bill if you get an iphone 6 under Verizon Edge. It's confusing when they explain it to you because they try to be cute and say things like "edge up" instead of upgrade early to get a new phone. But anyway, we just upgraded a phone on my family plan to an iphone 6 and were prepared to pay the $200. Instead, we ended up doing the no-contract Edge plan. We will pay the entire $650 for the phone over 2 years, which works out to $27/month, but they give you a $25 line credit for the no-contract line, which meant the monthly cost only went up by about $2.

Caveats: You have to pay the sales tax on the full price of the phone upfront. In my state, it's 7%, so that added $45. Add that to the approximately $48 over 2 years for the bill increase, and we are ultimately paying a bit under $100 for the phone. Not bad. And the upside is they said the $25 line credit stays after the phone is paid off since it's still no-contract, so if we choose not to get a new phone right away once it's paid off, we'll be saving a lot.

We find you can better deals with no contracts and no EXTRA HIDDEN FEES on T-Mobile, Boost, Virgin, etc. I think most of them have IPhone 6.
AT&T, Verizon, Sprint all have extra fees that come along with them that they don't tell you about. Maybe it's different in different states but in our state you get BIG HUGE fees added on.

By your description, it sounds like Verizon Edge and AT&T Next work exactly the same as far as $$ amounts when it comes to paying for the phone.

Good to know! I haven't used AT&T in years so I'm not familiar with their plans, but I'm not surprised they've got a similar setup. :)

You can get unlimited texting and data from AT&T for $15 per month??? I have seen unlimited texting and data for $30 per month from Virgin Mobile but that is still too expensive for me. I am waiting until the price drops below $20.

Ha! No. You purchase your data/calling family plan, THEN add $15/mo per phone. In adding our teenagers phones, we also had to give up unlimited data in order for our plan to be cost effective.

We have a 4. On Fri, I spent 2 hours researching the iPhone 6, 64g. The edge plan is the best for us. Our current bill is $150, 2 lines unlimited data. We use r3g a month. We will pay $152 a month for 6g and 2 new iPhone 6. We each got a $100 gc which we used to pay tax and got otterboxes. So, our rate barely changed, got new phones, with covers.

That's not too bad. Once your 24 months is up and the phones are paid off, do you know what your bill will be? Trying to compare this to Straight Talk.

Were you able to "edge up" before you were eligible for upgrade? DH and I really want to get new phones, but want to stay with Verizon.

If you are still in the 2-year contract period, you have to fulfill that before you can be in the out-of-contract Edge program, unfortunately. Once in the Edge program, you can turn in your phone and upgrade it after you've paid at least 75% of the cost. (Or, if you want to keep the old phone, you have to have paid it off in full.)

As in fees by the state? Can you give an example? The calling plans themselves are the same from state to state. I have AT&T and my bill is pretty straight forward. What I'm paying is laid out in black and white for each phone on my bill. I'm a bulldog when it comes to paying my bills, if the math doesn't come out right I dig until I find out why. I'm paying exactly what they told me I'd be paying. I'm curious where you think these fees are.

We have the 10GB mobile share plan and went with Next. In October when they were offering double your data deals for new customers I called and asked them to double mine and they did. Now with data rollover I feel I pay a very reasonable price for my plan. We also have a 25% company discount on the data plan. It would be worth checking out if your employer has any discounts, it seems pretty common.

What I like about Next is that I can pay off the phones anytime, my bill goes down and I'm free to stay on the plan, sell the phone, keep the phone, upgrade or not. I can do what I want, I'm not stuck waiting out two years if I don't want to. I've paid off one phone and will pay off the other two in short order. I'll never go contract again. My bill and the phones are less overall when you do the math. I can't comment on pay as you go but with some of the prices I've seen mentioned in previous threads if you have more than two phones it may be more cost effective to go with a mobile plan and bring your own phone.
