Report of RiV cancelled reservation

Just read a report of someone who had a reservation canceled that was booked during the glitch at RIV with some resale points.

It was booked for September. It is possible that anyone who was able to do this who has not yet traveled might find themselves with a different room.

This person said they were booked at BLT. So, just thought I’d give a heads up in case there is anyone here it might apply to.

This falls under " you knew you were doing it when you did it " The purchase agreement for RIV clearly spells this out.

I saw that post as well. We got a room at RIV during the glitch - not on purpose, just excited that a Duo Studio was available and snagged it real quick. Then it hit me what points were being used and I was a bit confused. I ended up stalking the site for a different room because I was afraid of this happening!

And I thought that this would be related to a commercial renter's reservation being canceled. Wow, where was I a few months ago? I completely missed the news of the glitch to let restricted resale points book at the new resorts. At least they're giving them a different room vs. canceling it.

This make me wonder it the ones who purchased MMB AP renewal with resale points was a glitch and will they suffer the same fate?

There was another report in another group of someone booking a 1 bedroom and being downgraded to a studio, they didn't say what resort

What a wild story. I don’t think we can share details here, but sounds like MS is more interested in closely reviewing reservations to punish owner-users than stop LLC renters.

I don’t know… the person who reported this genuinely sounded like they had no idea anything was wrong, the system just borrowed 2 points from another contract (they had almost enough direct RIV points to complete the reservation)

As I said 3 months ago:

this is going to be a nightmare for DVC, given the amount of users who have no idea how the system works on the best of days…

Although less of a nightmare for DVC and more of an issue for the owner here

Yes that is what it seemed like. If many didn’t take advantage on purpose those who did it by accident with only 2 points may have been spared.

Honestly shocked that Disney is doing this months after the fact, without giving the opportunity to borrow/bank/buy OTUP. I feel like there must be more to the story.

I seem to recall when a problem in IT happened before, they were not very helpful. If something looks too good to be true, it’s wise to be careful. In this case, owners KNEW they weren’t allowed to do what they did with resale points.

Unlike the grand Californian glitch where the website let too many people book rooms. That was not their fault but the hammer was dropped anyway.

They have not yet traveled. They said they got the cancellation notice and called because it made no sense

They found out it was because they borrowed points to finish the reservation from their resale contract.

They couldn’t keep RIV because they were 2 points short which leads me to believe that they had already borrowed all of the eligible points they had and all that was left were resale points.

Ah ok on the one hand it was nice of disney to rebook them in such a fantastic resort lmao but on the other I feel an exception should have been made for the two lil points

It doesn’t sound like they offered OTU points either but honestly, while this one was only 2 points, they probably found others that may have been a lot more.

I can see why DVC would want to stay consistent in canceling owners who booked with points that are not eligible.
