There are so many websites about the differences and some of them contradict each other. Is there anyone here that can give a low down on the differences? The 2 big things I heard were the camera has a higher res and the plug is smaller.

I am kind of hating on the iphone5 already just due to the cord because we keep chargers in each room so no matter what device we have, it can charge if it needs it. Now it would have to stay in the one room or spend $30 for adapters or extra cords. grr

Thanks!

You might try this. It compares the 4, 4s, and 5 which are the 3 readily available from the carriers in the next few weeks. It has most of the phone specs side by side. I have a 3GS and have waited and the 5 was really a big meh for me. The only real "plus" that I saw was having a 5th row of icons on the home screen but everything else was an incremental step up at best.

This was DH's thoughts too. He has the 3GS and has been waiting for something to WOW him about the next models. He's still waiting!!! The cord thing is a real deterrent. It's fine if they want to go to that, but at least give you an adapter when you buy the phone!

When you do decide to upgrade, check out Target. Just this weekend they bought my iphone 4 from me for $158. I then purchased the iphone 4s from them for $99. I walked into Target with my old phone and an hour later left with a new phone and a $50 Target gift card! :thumbsup2

I was annoyed with the thought about all the chargers I have that won't for the iPhone 5. But, from what I've read with a smaller charger space the speakers are bigger. I'll take the change.

If you have the "ancient" iPhone 3, I would think the iPhone 5 would really wow you. It's a huge improvement. It even comes with the new cord!

I have a 4S. I might not change it for the minimal changes, but this is definitely going to the back burner in my mind for when I decide to buy again. :)

I work for a company that has 3 major carriers.

It has bigger screen

It does have a new cable. You do have to make a fresh start for the docks and accessories. This new cable does allow for a thinner design.

The camera is not much better, but the interface is very improved.

Io6 - it's the new operating system. I have seen this work first hand thru beta, and I'm very impressed.

The mapping is no longer google, it's apples. I haven't given it much time, but I'll easily say its better.

Longer battery life too.

If I had a 4S, I would not upgrade now, especially because you won't be able to buy the 5 at a discount price. When your 2 year contact is complete, I suggest that if you have AT&T as your provider, have them unlock your iPhone 4S, then sell it on eBay. Unlocking it greatly increases the value. You'll probably make enough to pay for your new phone. I'm not sure what the policies are for unlocking with the other iPhone carriers.

Confused was this associated with a contract of any sort? I just looked on their website and I saw the iphone 4 listed for $550

I *think* the $549 iPhone 4 is using Virgin Mobile prepaid service.

I know the 4S is currently $649, and am hoping that Virgin picks up the 5, dropping the 4S to the $549 price point.

Did you have to pay an activation fee at Target?

thanks for the information - didn't I hear somewhere that an update will be coming out for the older phones that will have better navigation and better interface with Facebook? these were my two complaints with the 4S!

Your 4s will be compatible with the new interface.

I have a 4, but I was talking to our friend who works for apple, and he was explaining that even though the slot is different for the charger, the cord should be better for charging. He says the biggest problem with the older models is the battery draining, and they tried to fix that in this model. I'm not due for an upgrade until May, and I don't know if I'll upgrade right away or not. I'm already having an issue with battery drain, so who knows what it'll be like in May. That might change my mind one way or another.

The 5 is a big step up. It has better battery life, a faster processor, a better camera. LTE 4g as well.

I have a 4S and the 5 blows it out of the water. You can sell your older iPhones back. I got $274 for mine. Being that I paid $199 for it, that's pretty good!

I had to renew the 2 year contract but so what? I've had no problems with AT&T at all.
