iPhone 4

Why not just have it shipped to your house and avoid any and all lines.

When I pre-ordered, the price came up as $699.

I'm eligible for a full upgrade and didnt want to pay full price.

I have since received an email letting me know that some folks were quoted inaccurate pricing. (Me!).

The same thing happened to me Kevin. I actually went to AT&T and got it in writing that I was eligible for the upgrade because I didn't want there to be any question about it on Thursday. Of course...that was before I got the e-mail from Apple. :yay:

I did read that this was a wide spread issue. I do not blame you. I would would not have continued if it wanted to charge me $700.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

While Apple contacted a number of iPhone 4 pre-order customers to notify them that their shipments would be arriving tomorrow 06/23/2010, a day ahead of the official launch, a number of customers today began noticing that their tracking information was showing packages out for delivery today 06/22/2010.

No Walk-In iPhone 4 Sales at AT&T Retail Stores Until June 29th

Here are a few guidelines for customers buying iPhone 4 from AT&T at http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=18030

Preordered for home or business delivery: iPhone 4 will begin arriving this week for customers who preordered. We'll send an email when each order has shipped.

Preordered for store delivery: AT&T retail representatives will begin calling customers this week to let them know their iPhone 4 is available for pick up in store.

Retail purchase (no preorder): AT&T plans to have iPhone 4 inventory - available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last - on June 29 in its retail locations, at www.att.com, and in business sales channels. As inventory sells out, AT&T will offer the convenient option of purchasing iPhone 4 and having it delivered to a home or business or an AT&T store. As always, customers will receive an email once their order is placed, and again when it ships.

Holy cats, congratulations! :) I'm practically jumping up and down inside for you. haha!

It's pretty. :D

The FedEx tracker says mine has left Alaska (after starting in China with a stop in Hong Kong) and will be here tomorrow (Wednesday)! Can't believe some folks got it today, cool!:thumbsup2

When I go to AT&T.com to check my order status, it says it has shipped but the tracking number(s) it provides do not show any information on the FedEx website. I've never had that happen. Is this normal? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It is normal if it just shipped today. Give it overnight to show up in the FedEx system.

Well it says it shipped the 18th. I just got off of the phone with FedEx and they said they've been receiving a lot of calls like that and that it should arrive by Thursday and the information should be available tomorrow sometime.

Santa, I mean FedEx, just arrived. My iPhone is in my hands and I am getting ready to activate. :yay:

Update:
Activation Timeline
11:17 AM Backed up and synced my 3G
11:24 AM Plugged in iPhone 4
11:28 AM Agreed to Apple & AT&T Terms of service
11:29 AM Activation needs more time message will email you when it is done.
11:30 AM Restore from last backup
11:30 AM iPhone is Activated message (3G no longer has service - yay now we have an iPod Touch)
11:42 AM Restore Complete and Apps reinstalled
12:14 AM Music and Videos synced (~1880 items)
12:15 AM phone in use.

Not bad considering the time it took to upgrade the 3G to iOS 4.

The screen is downright amazing next to the 3G display. The pixels are so apparent on the 3G in comparison.

Queuing up early tomorrow for mine.
As a teacher I thought I'd have no chance staying off work, but some of our pupils are on 'work experience' so I scheduled a visit to some of them in the shop next door to o2 (mobile phone carrier).
Opening at 8:02 instead of 9 so hopefully I'll get it before going into work for 10am

fingers crossed :)

:goodvibes

Me too! The store here opens up at 7 AM and I am planning on leaving my house at 6 with the kids. Hopefully I will have it in time to get the kids to camp at 9 AM. :woohoo:

Apple collecting, sharing iPhone users' precise locations
June 21, 2010 | 2:13 pm

Apple Inc. is now collecting the "precise," "real-time geographic location" of its users' iPhones, iPads and computers.

In an updated version of its privacy policy, the company added a paragraph noting that once users agree, Apple and unspecified "partners and licensees" may collect and store user location data.

When users attempt to download apps or media from the iTunes store, they are prompted to agree to the new terms and conditions. Until they agree, they cannot download anything through the store.

The company says the data is anonymous and does not personally identify users. Analysts have shown, however, that large, specific data sets can be used to identify people based on behavior patterns.

An increasing number of iPhone apps ask users for their location, which is then used by the application or even uploaded to the app's maker. Apps like the Twitter application Tweetie and Google Maps make frequent use of location data, either to help the user get oriented geographically or to associate the user's action with a specific location (as when a tweet is geotagged).

Apple says in its privacy policy that it uses personal information to "improve our services, content, and advertising."

On Monday, Apple also rolled out its new advertising platform, iAd, for the latest version of its iPhone operating system (iOS 4). The company may well be integrating the location information into its advertising system -- for instance, to help local shops sell coupons to users in the neighborhood.

The update to the privacy policy did not specify which partners or licensees Apple will share the data with or how long the data will be kept. The only proprietary application it mentioned in relation to the data collection was the "Find My iPhone" app that helps users recover lost phones.

Apple did not immediately return a request for comment.

Here's the passage in question:

To provide location-based services on Apple products, Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device. This location data is collected anonymously in a form that does not personally identify you and is used by Apple and our partners and licensees to provide and improve location-based products and services. For example, we may share geographic location with application providers when you opt in to their location services.

Some location-based services offered by Apple, such as the MobileMe “Find My iPhone” feature, require your personal information for the feature to work

Not me. Ours will be delivered to the door. Will go by AT&T to try and purchase some bumpers for the phones. Hope they have them. Seen them on ebay. Man people are trying to rip you off on there. They want 59.99 for a bumper. I think not.:scared1:
